So I have all the bits...

Some wheels:

[Hate photobucket]

New Chainset:

[Hate Photobucket]

And a big box of bits:

[Hate Photobucket

Chorus mechanical (the connoisseur's groupset), 3T bar, stem and post and other assorted shiny bits...

[Hate Photobucket]

So the frame finally arrives (or rather in my impatience I go down to collect it)...

Congratulations Meesterbond... it's a red one:

[Hate Photobucket]

A very healthy, if not very weight weenie 4lbs:

[Hate Photobucket]

And a further 344g for the forks (uncut)...

All in all, a very happy boy, although won't get a chance to build it up for a few weeks...

Intriguing! What's the frame then or am I missing something obvious (apart from it's steel and appears to be coming from Italy? If it's a Pegoretti I hate you already lol).

Verona isn't far from Trento so my bet is a Peg too.

Damn you, my aim is to order one in time for my 40th in a few years.

    Look forward to the pics.

If were in guessing mode then it could also be one of these

Based in Castelnuovo del Garda about 10 miles from Verona

    Or possibly one of these

    http://www.chesini.it/eng/bikes/steel

with the main base in Verona itself.

Well, the frame has spent Christmas in a depot in Basildon (lucky thing), despite having a delivery date of the 22nd.

    Hopefully tomorrow.

  • Difficult to pull-off a steel build with deep sections and make it look right. However, based on meesterbond's past builds, he might be the man to do it. Looking forward to seeing this!

We left the house for 2 hours today - they attempted to deliver it 10 minutes after we'd gone... off to pick it up in the morning!

By the way, it is a Pegoretti... a Mxxxxxo (Dario wouldn't say why he changed the name from Marcelo when it's essentially the same bike). No idea what colour it is yet either as I went for the Ciavete. Let's hope he wasn't having a 'bright pink' day when he painted it.

    Nice!

    Falz fork?

I'd go for a Mxxxxxo too.

Nice. Probably the only frame I would buy to replace my colnago.
Looking forward to seeing it completed.

  • I'm tyrying to figure out "Ciavete"... I do understand a bit of dialect from Veneto and my guess is that it means something along the lines of "go f-u-c-k yourself"

I think in this context it means "we'll paint it in whatever combination of paints we feel like - fingers crossed you don't hate it when you open the box" or words to that effect.

I was interested in the word per se... it could be a macheronic use of the Italian c'avete, which means "you have" (2nd plural) or in dialect might derive from the verb "ciavar" (literally f-u-c-k)... I seem to remember in Veneto they use "ciavete" to mean go fcuk yourself...

Anyway... the paint scheme is a grower... one of those that one hates at first but then grows into liking it a lot... the red is very nice, obviously

It's not my favourite paintscheme I've seen on a Pegoretti but I bet it looks better in the flesh and as above will probably be a grower. What it definitely isn't is just another cookie cutter Trek/Specialised/Giant which makes it all the more appealing to me.

That paint job looks like it's been done by someone who's not been taking their medication.
  • Love the frame colour!
It'll look great attached to that Bora wheel set :D

I feel I should know, but considering most of my dialect was taught to me by my gran I don't think that ever came up. I will try to find out.
Lovely frame, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

My LBS are quite friendly with Dario and afatk it means f*** y** and you'll end up with whatever takes Dario (or his teams) fancy at the time of painting. He does normally ask for a few hints though.

It's funny isn't it? You'll have built a bike from scratch in the same time.

It always makes me smiles when people talk about bike builds and needing weeks to assemble a few components in a glorified Mecchano set.

Although having all the stuff and not having time to put it together would drive me up the wall. On the other hand after waiting for the frame you'd be used to waiting. But, I'd be like an impatient kid waiting for Christmas and would have to get on with it.

Ok, keep your hair on... I've actually been off skiing for the last week, only just got back. Will make a start on it on Tuesday with any luck.

Saw my sister the other day (lives in Padova) and she was more than a little surprised but confirmed it is correct.

At least we've all learnt a very useful Italian phrase from this thread, even if bike build progress has been slow / non existent.
