Anyone on here from the NW know whether there are regular circuit races at Pimbo any more? CDNW used to run them but looks like they're defunct now - I've seen the odd race advertised by St Helens and Harry Middleton this year but don't know if there are weekly ones, like at Tameside or Salt Ayre. Been down for the winter chaingang the last few Wednesdays and wouldn't mind giving racing there a go (no hairpins, so suits a fat old chopper like me)

  • Haven't heard of any weekly stuff going on there, but there were 4 races there this year. Wish there were more though, despite the largely stagnant racing tactics adopted by many it's a pretty reasonable surface and nice and fast.

TLI organised a set of Pimbo races this year.
    Nothing until 2017.

Been doing a regular chaingang round Pimbo (Grimbo) on Wednesday evenings - seems like a nice fast circuit so have entered a race there at the beginning of March (the Duncan Sparrow). Comes the day after another race (probably not the most sensible idea I've ever had) but at least it'll give me some idea of where I am fitness-wise at the start of the season.

Only problem is, I hear the race is heavily over-subscribed and not sure what criteria are used for selecting riders. The BC site is useless, and I haven't had a response from the race organisers. Wondering whether it's done on previous entries (e.g. priority given to riders/clubs who've ridden it before), first-come first-served or something else?

  • Should be first come first served , however proving that might be hard. Historically entries from local clubs may have been favoured over private entries.
you may already know that on Knowsley industrial estate , outside the Kodak building . 7pm. main local chaingang Tuesday and Thursday. From feb till the hour changes. Then it all moves to Bickerstaffe church till September.
    on a good night 50 plus riders , 2 groups. about 1hr

Race organisers are free to determine the selection criteria themselves. Ideally they would say if it's anything other than first come, first served though. For one race I organised I prioritised riders from clubs who were running a road race in that season as I was fed up with small, sponsored teams being formed who would cherry pick riders from other clubs, win all the local races but put nothing back into the sport. With handicap races I used to try to get a good balance in the numbers in each group.

Cheers folks - think I was probably one of the first riders in anyway, so if it's FCFS, I should be OK

@part time waster - that industrial estate is a bit far for me to go, but I know of the Bickerstaffe chainy from TTing there during the Summer, so will probably drop in on that when TT/racing allows
