Though having said that, I imagine there's some rather sad collateral damage in the families of those other riders.

    Not so nice.
  • I do not know if De Jongh continued this "technique" as sports director:

"But what makes Mijn Gevecht stand out from the multitude of cardboard memoirs is Dekker’s voice, which I can only hope is as authentic as it feels. Mijn Gevecht is not a tell-all, but it does indeed feel as if he is telling all, every wart and blemish. The situations he describes are stranger than fiction, such as the first time he meets his hero, Steven de Jongh; they’re assigned a hotel room together, and De Jongh quickly turns on pay-per-view porn. He tosses Dekker a towel, and tells him they’re going to masturbate together, which they do. Welcome to professional cycling."

Could this be Daniel Friebe's previously mentioned (but never revealed) Steven De Jongh story?

I guess the Dutch have no equivalent of the saying "What goes on tour stays on tour".

Good review that. Makes me more likely to buy the book if/when it comes out in English.

On the basis of what I've read I suspect that there are probably many more De Jongh stories like that...

BTW I bet that sort of stuff still happens...

Reminds me of a Swedish bloke I once knew. These crazy Europeans, eh?!
  • ^thank you chrisMrnumber, how edifying of you to choose that excerpt to post

1: you could make this remark to the one who criticized the book. 2: With a title that begins with SEX, one should expect this kind of extract. 3: I have no problem with this contrary to you and one should not pretend that it does not exist or has never existed.4: And it is Mrs.

from De Jongh on Cyclingnews: Another section of the book describes a time early in his Rabobank career where he and Steven de Jongh, who was at Rabobank between 2000 and 2005, watched porn in together in their room. De Jongh reacted angrily on Twitter, accusing Zonneveld of trying to sensationalise things. "I understand that Thomas Dekker did not want it in the book," De Jongh wrote. "Thanks Thijs Zonneveld for the adversarial process. Didn't happen. Class."

Zonneveld just got voted sports writer/journalist of the year by the Dutch Sports Press Association.
