Evening Mongs,

Long time since I have posted.

What are peoples thoughts on Trump and the halting of Brexit and Russia etc?

Curious to know, I found my house mates views rather interesting who is pro trump and comes from money.

I found his views biassed and inhumane.

Just wondering what other people's thought are.

If Trump can make America great again, then good. But in my opinion his views are a dictatorship.

So shoot me down if I am wrong.

I think that America is a great country as is the UK. Countries that are not great include Haiti and Syria in my view.

Trump only won because the other choice was also really bad.
Brexit hasn't been halted. Parliament now just has the opertunity to keep control of the evil headmistress May and stop her doing whatever she wants in the negotiations. I find it slightly amusing that people voted for parliamentary sovereignty and then when parliament are put in control of that process then people don't like it.

  • I agree Trump won as the situation of the American people allowed it to get to that stage.

With him being the new Commander in Chief and Parliament halting Brexitt etc, and Putin flexing his muscles along with north korea etc.

Could all of these scenarios not be seen as a pre war sign or have I been reading too much news?

Don't want to sound like I should wear a tin foil hat, but the politics seem like they will escalate out of control.

Things aren't that bad. The Daily Mail, Sun, Express etc like to exaggerate and generate hate because it sells papers.

Agree that the media wants to sell papers etc. So propaganda is to be expected etc.

But, nations seem to be flexing powers atm, ie, the Russian ships sailing through the British channel.

Putin saying he will shoot down any threat in Syria, North Korea being mad as ever.

Now Trump is the commander in chief, it all seems like a pre cursor.

Russia have been sending military planes in to UK air space and testing our responses for years. It's nothing new.
They sent over a couple Bear nuclear bombers a couple years ago. They were visible from the South coast and it was well reported in the media at the time. The RAF escorted them out of UK air space and no war started.
Russia know no one would threaten them, nothing happened when they invaded part of Ukraine.
There won't be any war. They'll continue bombing the crap out of innocent people in Syria and the Daily Mail will continue to accuse homeless people fleeing from war to be terrorists.
    Nothing will ever change.

  • If there is one positive to come from this, it's that the Western world has now seen that labelling someone as racist is no longer enough to silence them or to turn people against them, my hope is that this leads to a new UK political party that can knock the two main parties out of power, despite the fact that any party that starts to gain support is always labelled as racist (and other things) by the media.

I sort of agree with this. I also believe that he won because his views are very inward looking, and trying to make America great, by pi$$ing everyone else off, and Americans lapped that up.
It's the same as Brexit, Boris and co were saying about how we could be a great nation, with industry, education, production etc. all booming inside with no greater power looming over us. The alternative was to carry on as normal.

People want change. It's hard to change the system though. Spin doctors and parliaments detached from the people have been running the country for years, and it's got to a point where the public have very little control at all.

Trump won't be able to move on half of his ideas, he'll simply be laughed out of congress. But he'll boost production in America, he'll save some industries there. He may, if he's lucky, trigger WW3 with Iran over Israel, it depends in Putin will join him. Hopefully we'll have left the EU and just be able to sit back and watch without getting involved this time.

Anyway, it's Monday morning and my tea is getting cold and this is too much.

The real power in the UK is with tabloid newspapers. Their ability to influence votes through spreading fear and hate is impressive yet terrifying.

exactly this. politicians are mere puppets
  • Very scary thought RockM, but I don't completely agree. The reason they have so much power is that 'people' in general may not be intellectually endowed enough to actually think about the validity of promises, the actual vote that they should cast based on their own views and opinions (not those of others they have had foisted upon them) and the CONSEQUENCES of their actions... if they actually bother to vote at all (less than 80% turnout for EU Ref, really?)

Ultimately, the real power is the stupidity of the general public.

The UK press won the EU referendum. Rupert Murdoch even admitted he could go to downing Street and tell them what to do and they'd do it because they knew what would be in the papers the next day if they didn't. He didn't have that power over the EU.

Top Trumps wouldn't have the same meaning then.
