Standard road clinchers on 29er hookless carbon rims?

I currently run 25mm wide standard hooked carbon disc Chinese rims with 28mm tyres on my road bike. They're great, would never go smaller.

I need another set of wheels for a gravel frame with thru axles, will mostly be for road use but looking around there seems to be more choice and better prices on 29er carbon hookless rims.

Do standard road clinchers fit these ok? I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't' I usually run low pressures, about 50psi even with tubes.

I'm also thinking about going tubeless with them and using Schwalbe S-One 30mm tubless, reckon that would fit?

    I could be wrong but AFAIK the freehub on a 29er wheel will only take a 10 speed road cassette not 11 speed road cassette. If it's advertised as 11 speed then most likely 11 speed MTB which is the same width as 10 speed road.

    Thanks, but don't worry about other details, I am building the wheels myself, I am just looking at buying the rims, I already have powerway m32 hubs (which take 11s fine) and spokes ready.

    It's just purely down to will standard (but wide) road clinchers fit fine on hookless rims if you stick to low pressure? And will they also take a tubless tyre like the S-One? I've never really been into mtb/built mtb wheels so I have no idea about this.

    Tyres could blow of without warning at 50 psi. These rims are meant for 30 psi max. Back in the steel rim where hookless. Znything more than 40 psi i have found to be hazzardous. I still bikes like this in the shop sometimes and i have had tyres pop off at 50 psi. Bad idea in my book.

    Thanks, do you think this still definitely the case with modern kevlar bead tyres?

    I noticed (literally about 5mins ago when I was googling) that the new enve 45. ses ar road rims are hookless and rated to 80psi using standard (wide) road tyres. http://www.bikerumor.com/2016/08/30/new ... ern-tires/

    I built some wheels using Chinese hookless rims recently. The spec says 70psi max, and I'm running them at 50/35psi with 40mm road tyres. I haven't died yet.

    Not sure how enve have managed it but i have mtb tubeless tyres blow off a ryde rim at 50 psi.

    Whether you can safely do this or not will depend on the tyre and rim design.

    Hookless is for wide tyres running low presures not sure what the advantage is for narrower tures which have to run at higher pressures. It mostly about cost cutting for the rkm manufacturer. Thag is about the only benefit i can see.

    Well MTB tyres will blow off as force at the rim is pressure * area. Stans grail rims list max psi for differing tyre widths:
    23mm = 116 psi
    28mm = 100 psi
    32mm = 45 psi

    Seems Praxis now do a hookless road rim as well rated to 120psi!

    Anyway, I have ordered the rims now, all info I've managed to find suggest everything will be fine. As for cost cutting, yeah I'm fine with paying less for my rims, that is a definite advantage in my book, also seems logical they would be marginally stronger given the same weight vs hooked.

    For whats its worth I thought I'd test the waters before building up a nice set of road wheels as hookless... as I needed a XC set of wheels I ordered a prebuilt carbon 29er wheelset from ebay real cheap (£280 all in), they were hookless outside dia 30mm, inside 25mm.

    Before sticking on some XC tyres I did them up with road tyres, they fit great, had them pumped up to 90psi with no issues, I know they would go more but I don't need anything near that, infact they needed a full 75psi just to get them over the tubeless bead and seated properly.

    That's a 28mm tyre, fits very nice on the rim, modern aero lip style, plus so much volume I'll be able to run very low pressures, still when I build up some road ones (slightly lighter rims, still disc) I'll get some 30mm schwalbe and do them up proper tubeless.

    Hookless FTW!!
