I am in the process of deciding on which new bike to bike and one of the ones I am interested in is the 2016 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 which comes with SLR01 wheels. Giant claim these rims are able to handle much higher temperatures than other carbon rims and have tested them against the likes of Zipp and Reynolds on 2 15 tests and they came out top. Apparently they can handle 245c due to the resin they use.

Now I don't know much about heat build up in rims but would these be able to handle descending the high mountains of Southern Spain ok or would Alu rims be better?

I am off to Vamos next September and want a set of lightish climbing wheels and as these come with the TCR would it be worth keeping them for the trip or are they not up to the job?

If not then I may go with my other bike choice and buy some additional lightweight wheels for the trip.

Thanks

Several guys came to the Alps with us this year with those wheels. No problems at all.
  • I have the 55mm deep SLR0 wheels and they are brilliant TBH..
