Rear light recommendations

I need a couple of rear light recommendations.

Firstly, I've got a rack on the Equilibrium and I'd quite like to have a light on the back of it, preferably something with a fitting plate that the light releases from.

Secondly, can anyone recommend a decent light that will go on the back of a Hamax Kiss? when the EPO asked for rear lights I was happy to get her an Exposure Flare as I love mine, but being an Idiot I've failed to realise that no one would see it on the seat post apart from Asprilletta The Youngest would would probably get damaged retinas.

  • Can the Exposure Flare be mounted on a seat-stay instead?

In the past I've taken apart a normal seatpost mount and used the light bracket bolted to the back of the rack.

SJS do a useful range of brackets.

For a seatstay light the LED strip lights are best I find as its compact yet gives good rear facing light.

Exposure make a saddle rail mount which is far superior.

I used one on my Brompton.

In this case though, it still put the light right in front of the child's face.

I've got a cateye mount on the rear of both my racks works well with my 600 and 610 lights

  • Moon Nebula. Been using one for a year now and absolutely perfect. Used in all weathers and zero issues with water ingress. USB rechargeable. Really bright. Fantastic mounting options straight out the box. If the rails of the carrier are spaced well, you could use the saddle rail mount which is super robust.

It would keep her warm at least.
At least you realised that would be an issue, amazing how many people you see with lights almost entirely obscured. My favourites are the women that have front light illuminating the huge handbag they have in their basket, or the girl with the light mounted on the seat tube significantly lower than the top of the back wheel.
Not familiar with that seat, but the old Hamax from when ours were little had an opening compartment on the back and you could screw a similar attachment to the rack plate thing you are after to it.

I too have this mount for my Tubus rack / Cateye TL1100 holy hand grenade rear light. Well I've had it for a few years actually.

All I need to do now is get round to mounting the rack on the bike, the mount on the rack, and the light on the mount...

(or I could just carry on clipping the light to the loop on the seatpack for another year.... :D )

Would the saddle rail mount not bolt just as well to a rack stay?

  • Get a Fibre Flare - they're very bright and because they're long and flexible they can clip on to most things (mine's on the back of my helmet)
  • I use a See-Sense ICON+ http://seesense.cc/features/, and it's brilliant (but doesn't have a fitting plate). It's a "smart" light that flashes brighter and faster when it senses car headlights or when you're accelerating/braking.

250 lumens on the rear (or 190 lumens for the standard model) is plenty enough. It claims 15-hour run-time for a 5-hour charge, but I normally get about 12 hours. It can switch on and off automatically depending on bike movement.

Is the answer not to put a saddle rail mount on both bikes, then just move the light to the rear-most bike?
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.
  • Noom Nebula as main and a Noom Comet (part of twin set) as redundancy from Aldi, £21 total if just Nebula front.

Spelling intentional, they are identical, the rear Nebula comes with exactly the same packaging as my McCoy bought recently from Merlin in their sale for ~£34 including Topcashback.

Our store last year only got the white comet knock offs, supposedly 200, and they were all gone by the end of day 2.
The red ones never came in.
Which is why I ordered stuff online this year to ensure I got the minimum.

  • excellent - looks like the rear mount is identical to the moon stuff, and therefore identical to last years aldi lights too.
means my custom mount will still work. excellent.

Thought you had these priced wrong as I know I only spent £22.98 on my Aldi bargains which was GT85, COB light and half zip jersey. Just checked the receipt and was only charged for the light and jersey :D
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
