All the disadvantages of Qatar with none of the advantages - i.e. chance of mega echelons. I was looking forward to 250km of pure echelon debauchery but alas, not to be.

Funnily enough, they don't offer a profile, so we can assume it's this:

  • I think any of the below could take this (in no particular order):
    - Cav
    - Greipel
    - Kittel
    - Viviani
    - Sagan
    - GVA
    - Bouhanni
    - Kristoff
    - Gaviria
    - Ewan
    - Matthews
    - Boasson Hagen
    - Breakaway? (Boonen, Stybar, Terpstra, Trentin, Gilbert, van Poppel etc etc)

In other words, it's wide open?!

  • Couldn't that first bit possibly produce echelons? But with 100km to go once it gets into the technical bit, who's going to want to keep it going for that long?

    Have they put cobbles down?

Surely this is proof that money does indeed talk, your arse or not...

Cav pulled out of a race last week because of illness so depends how he's feeling for this.

Depends what the illness is, and whether he can get a TUE for it

    Ah c'mon guys.

    That's so 2013.

I'm all about mud colours and muted dark blues & grays.

I might style it out with one of the many of light scarves or roll necks I have. That's more what's going on in the sartorial world of Chasey.

It could end up a bit like the Commonwealth games in Delhi.

I'm going early on this one:

Sagan for the repeat, and as part of his victory speech this time he'll plead for equal rights and respect for women worldwide. You know, just to keep the hosts happy

The backdrop looks pretty cool but that's about it. Just one long sprint train basically. Might as well just make it 10km and get it over and done with (My view on a lot of the Vuelta stages this year too, you know, the great ones where they ride along a dual carriageway for hours then have a cool climb at the end)
  • Cookson must have had a big brown envelope for letting this through.
The unforgettable experience will be totally different as for the first time; the broadcasting will be through very outstanding parkour with the surroundings of the The Pearl – Qatar, Qatar Foundation, Lusail, and AspireZone.

The Arabian well-known hospitality, the windy weather, the gulf surroundings, and the generous touches will add different flavors to 2016 Championships.

In fairness, I think the Worlds is where the UCI makes most if it's annual money, so it's probably difficult for them to say no.

Finishes in front of my brother's apartment. Shame he's in Saudi for the weekend and I'm here.

But I'll be back out there for the MotoGP in March :)

Indeed, it is one thing declaring a race boring afterwards (or "not a vintage edition" in BR parlance), but it's something else completely moaning about it before the race.

It's a race around this, just so they can sell more properties. Think of the whole WRC as an advertorial for Qatar property.

And don't forget the "very outstanding parkour" at this years WRC

@inrng reporting that both Greipel and Kittel selected for the German team.
