Can anyone comment how thick and warm these are?

I'm sort of hoping they aren't and might be just a slight step up from a regular run of the mill long sleeve jersey?

  • They're not really thick and warm. I find them best suited to around 10 degrees although I tend to run a bit warm.

Ah right, might sound promising as I do run cold.

Are you wearing it without a base layer at around 10deg ?
  • No just on its own. Below that and I would use a ls base layer or a gilet, or if windy then both.

They re not thick. Perhaps a tadette thicker than the normal Rapha merino jerseys. The normal ones are not windproof

Merino Wool is dead, sweaty and weighs a ton when wet. For winter jerseys its all about Gabba :D
*the one thing I do like about the Brevet jersey is it has many many pockets*

Literally everything you say is wrong.

Gabba is a sweaty monstrosity for anything above 7 degrees. And its horrible against the skin.

Fine in the cold and wet weather, else no, just no. Sportswool is a billion times better :P

You should sell some of the heat generated by your body to municipal heating industry. There is only a month or two that i cannot wear a ss Gabba.
I admit i do not like cycling in merino garments, but they are great off bike.

I do run hot but not that hot. We're all different so different jerseys work for different people. The gabba is horrible without a base layer though ;)
  • Yup - Gabba is the only jersey where my phone gets wet in the back pocket when it's dry outside - such is how sweaty it gets. Much over-hyped.

I love the Rapha Brevet Jersey though. Likewise, I wear mine without base layer from about 10C downwards, adding layers underneath as it gets colder.

Think I'll try one from what people have said. Just a question of whether there will be an offer now or whether to pay full whack.
  • As said they sit between the regular classic jersey and the winter jersey.

I've got both of those and do feel there is a gap in between that needs to be filled but I would think the Brevet windblock is a better choice as it gives you the windproof front for those colder days but it's SS only.

Brevet long sleeve and gilet would be a good bundle, not sure why they only bundle the short and gilet?

I think they do but it changes by season. I'd expect them to add it back as a bundle soon

  • I'm not sure how I missed that this morning unless it has just been added as it does state 'new'!

I was after a Autumn windproof jersey for around £100 (posted your review thread and looked at the Sportfuk) but could stretch to this as I do like Rapha.

  • I was about to hit go on a Sportful or Assos (Habu) but think I'll go for this. Should be good enough for cold days. I wonder how Rapha view the overlap between this and the winter jersey? I'd imagine they're similarly warm now. There's also the isadore thermerino to look at mind.

Hmmm... was just at cart and now dithering because of the windblock version...

Am thinking the normal one as I have Gabba Long Sleeve already and I'd guess the windblock one is going to be about as warm as that and the normal one less warm... logic/guesswork sound about right?

The winter jersey is pretty thick, I'd say twice as thick as a normal classic jersey in places plus it has the windproof front too.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of the Brevet windblock, windproof front only which means your back can breathe a bit better than it would if you were wearing a gilet.

Is the LS windblock one thinner material than the normal brevet?

My wife has both SS brevets and the windblock one is a lot thinner. I'd not think of it as a Winter or even cooler Autumn jersey if it's the same material as the SS.

It does look thinner in the pictures, it also details it at 89% merino 11% nylon whereas the normal Brevet is 61% polyester, 39% merino?

The windblock is excellent. I've the SS version. It's very light and the lighter back allows body warmth to escape.

  • I will review shortly but, initial thoughts.....

Nice fit. Really nice. Arms are a bit looser than normal and good to get a base layer under.

Arm merino akin to a lighter merino base layer not a merino jersey. Could be longevity issues but seems perfectly nice.

Back seems to be the normal brevet jersey but might be also slightly lighter weight. Not sure without back to back comparison.

Quite short bodied, in large fine on me.

Get black or blue as the front does have a vaguely shell suit aesthetic which might not work too well in the burgundy.

Looks quality though. And looks very suited to a wide range of temps.

The back is thinner than the normal Brevet (which feels more like the Mk.1 Classic jersey in weight/thickness)

  • Good man. I didn't have one here to check but my muscle memory appears to be good! It's an interesting thing. Very similar in many ways to the Assos S7 intermediate in terms of "it looks like it may not be good enough in the cold but actually really is."

  • Essentially therefore the proper description might be that this the the Long Sleeve lightweight Brevet windproof jersey......

Agreed - hard to see how they could make a much lighter version with the windproof front!
