Hi all, new here and I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than I can help me (sorry if it's in wrong forum).

I purchased a Carrera Crossfire 2 Men's Hybrid Bike 2015 approx 4-5 months ago. Couple of days ago I noticed my rear wheel was wobbling. I took it into Halford's to get it checked. The rep there advised the axle had broken and the quick release had bent and that it would most likely be cheaper to just replace the wheel due to the damage. They don't have any in stock and told me it would be cheaper to purchase one somewhere else and he could fit it. I need to buy a '700C DISC SCREW ON REAR COGS QUICK RELEASE AXLE'.

Problem is when I searched for this nothing matched exactly and I don't know enough about the parts to know what i was looking at was suitable. Is there anyone who could advise on where I could purchase this replacement.

Thanks in advance

Quick check of the Carrera Crossfire specification suggests that it has a 24 speed gear set-up with a triple chainset and an 8-speed 12-32 cassette like this:-

If that is the case then the rear wheel will have a standard Shimano freehub capable of taking an 8-speed cassette and probably 9 and 10 speed cassettes also. The freehub is a splined body that is integral to the hub of the rear wheel. In that case the information you were given about "screw-on" rear cogs is incorrect.

You need a rear wheel like this one (or similar)

This has the correct freehub to take your 8-speed cassette

4-5 months ? That should still be covered under warranty if bought new,

Also what's your body weight ? as that mght have contributed to the snapped axle. If that's the case, a low spoke count wheel like the wheel in the evans link may not be suitable. 32 or 36 spoke at a minimum is advised.
  • I'm a pretty hefty guy , hence starting up cycling. I am approx 20 stone. At that sort of weight is the wheel linked above not suitable then? Also my bike has 21 gears, not sure if that makes a difference to what was recommended.

Link to spec where I bought it from. http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/h ... -bike-2015

Any 7 speed casette will fit on a 7,8,9,10 speed freehub with a spacer

No,the evans wheel would not be suitable.

This wheel is compatible and is 32 spoke

The wheel needs to be -

    700c
    6 bolt disk
    8,9,10 speed freehub
    Quick release
    32 or 36 spokes

No one has pointed you to a wheel the same as what you have. It isn't a cassette wheel, it takes a screw on freewheel.
At your weight I would suggest you upgrade to a 36 spoke cassette wheel though like linked above, if you do you will also need to upgrade your screw on freewheel to a 7 speed cassette and use a 4.5mm spacer behind it to use the 8-10 speed wheel.
