It would be interesting to see a proper 13-15% climb in the middle of a stage to give a chance for something to break apart, rather thatn just as the MTF.

  • Live started with 100kms to go over this heavy terrain.
It's extremely hot. Then that cliff to climb at the finish.
I don't envy them one little bit.

But then they would just go slow over it, non?

Big 27 man break including Konig, Gesink, Cataldo, Zubeldia, Frank, Thwaites...

Apparently Gesink took the KOM on the final climb yesterday.

Everyone would just role over it like when they put the Tourmalet in the middle of a Tour stage. The alternative would be the favourites race it, loads of riders get dropped and we end up with another stage where the grupetto rolls in an hour later.

They had that to a certain extent on Saturday with the Marie Blanque topping out 40om from the finish.

Gesink is very quickly getting my love back for him.

Interesting that he does not think, in general, that he can go for both GC ranking and stage wins in GTs. Perhaps he might just be good enough to do both once he regains his confidence (and stops falling off his bike in races).

Yep, good to see him coming good again eh?

They wouldn't race it if there was a decent length of flat before the next climb for the other teams to repair any damage.

    Is that like Gardening leave?

We could get BigBean to come up with some rule involving decimation which would make them race it...

I feel a bit guilty for being tempted by others (e.g. Kelderman).

Gesink has class, he just needs to get his legs back and he will be complete. Hopefully he has a few years left in him and will be the sole focus of the team for the next couple of years (for the Tour anyway).
