Dunwich Dynamo 2016

I'm toying with the idea of doing it this year but have never been before. My only return option is likely to be a coach but I'm slightly put off by the long queues that I've read about, and the idea of waiting around for all the loading/unloading. I'm not sure if my legs will be up for cycling over to Ipswich to catch the train, and I can't leave a car there the day before either. Are there any tips for making the coach journey as seamless as possible?

Brompton. Seriously. Goes in the hold of the coach rather than the trucks. No queues.

Did it in 2014. Rode back to Ipswich and got the train to Stratford. Piece of cake - even though it absolutely hammered it down. Seriously - with 120 miles in your legs another 30 won't make that much difference - have a pint in the pub in Dunwich to carb up and get back on it. Don't bother with the coach - unless you hammer it out there and get on it early

Yes but lights to be seen are one thing. Lights "to see" are quite another and to spend £200 on a really bright light id never use again seems a bit pointless

Fair point, but I wouldn't worry. I did it two years ago with a Lezyne micro drive and was absolutely fine. The dead of night only really lasts about four hours at this time of year and even then, most of the route is on pretty decent road surfaces for the UK

Yes I was going to say you wont need a light for that long and you could probably borrow one off a mate just for the event.

Ive got some leyzene normal lights. I went out and did 110 mile loop yesterday on my new bike and was only second outing on it so would be a good ride to do a week before the london prudentail 100 thingy or what ever its called. Think i may well turn up and ride this sounds a giggle,

I've done it for the last three years and found that a Cateye Opticube HL-EL135 is enough light even in the dead of night on an unlit country lane. Forecast is good for Saturday/Sunday.

Many people planning on cycling the return journey too?

Considering it, but most likely going for an easier option - is there much chance of getting a bike on the train at Ipswich without booking/does it tend to be more bikes than spaces?
  • Wow, what a night that was!

re potholes - I drove back along a bit of the route on Sat, had to wait for quite a while in one of the villages while riders passed me, and there must have been a big hole just opposite, because pretty much every rider cursed as they went over! But what a sight - a stream of thousands of bikes with lights pouring down country lanes in Essex. Doubt I'll ever be keen enough to do it, but serious chapeau to anyone who does!
