Just bought a 2008 spesh enduro which has a if juicy ultimates. Wondering whether to put my shimano slx on from the trek remedy I'm selling.

Do I go for newness over original cost? Is shimano reliability/simplicity the winner?

Help!

Keep the Shimano's, and put the Avid's on whatever bike you are selling.

    It's a no brainer

Ditch the Avids asap, you'll only have to fix or replace anyway
  • Cheers fellas, just a pain the slx hose is a bit short for the spesh front. What a pain in the arse.

    Strange comment ...!?

Never had any issues with my ultimates and had looooodsa power due to huge leverage on 203mm rotors.

The lever feel was also spot on.
Like xtr brakes they use better pads ime.
  • Slx are good too as I run them on my 26+ steel bike with 180/160mm rotors and they feel alright but frint I feel has yet to bed in nicely to full unglazed power.

Not really, Avids are 7 years older than the Shimano's and are generally less reliable.

    That.
    Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
    Allround - Cotic Solaris
  • Maybe older but shimano jobbies are throw away items or replace lever with new when seals go on them.

If it's easier for op to keep the ultimates then I would do that!

I went from Avid XX brakes to Shimano Deore and the improvement was well worthwhile.
Going from Juicy ultimate to SLX will be even better. Just keep the 203 discs.
  • The front worked! Unfortunately I now cant feed the rear lever through the gap in my triple clamp forks! Anyone know a solution???
    (Simple)
  • Sorted.
