Colombia: Uran, N. Quintana, Lopez, Chavez, Sergio Henao

Netherlands: Poels, Dumoulin, Mollema + 1 of Kruijswijk/Gesink/Kelderman

Only two mainstream countries announced so far.

How come Henao is riding? Is the situation with Sky just voluntary withdrawal until they know more?

Yes. Decision expected in a couple of weeks I think.

GB probably isn't too difficult to guess either with Kenyuck broken collarbone and S Yates with a ban hanging over him.

I'm not so sure, even if we assume those two are out of contention.
Froome, Thomas and Adam Yates are certainties. But then who?

Cummings has the climbing ability but tends to hang around the back of the bunch. One for the break maybe?
Then there's Swift, Stannard and Rowe. Unless you throw Carthy in at the deep end.

I'd be tempted. He seems to have pedigree in one day races too, which guys like Froome don't.
Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy

whats the rule with riders for the TT and riders for the RR? can you have completely different set of riders? I'm guessing Froome will be there for TT so prob put him in RR team too

I think the TTer has to do the Road Race. The Dutch said their second TTer would be Keldermann if he's selected for the RR and Poels if he isn't. (Also why Dumoulin was preselected for the RR).

    Quiz question:

Which relation (sort of) of Stephen Roche will be competing in Rio on the Track?

Jess Andrews who qualified for the 10000m last night is the fiancee of Dan Martin, Roche's nephew.

Although that may not be the kind of track you are referring to?

Confirmed: Peter Sagan will not start on road bike at the Olympics, but he will compete as MTB racer (cross country) at the Olympics 2016.
The mountain bike race takes place on the 21th of August

Yep, it's one for the Valverdes of this world. Sagan says it's too hard for him.

The Team GB road race team is: Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, Ian Stannard, Adam Yates and Peter Kennaugh.

No word but assuming Froome for the TT with Thomas as back up.

    Surprised no Cummings

Waiting for the official announcement from BC at 14:15, rather than the Daily Heil

However, if li'l Pete has a spot and Cummings has been omitted (unless he has asked to be ruled out), then the selectors have taken leave of their senses (not that that would be unusual for BC)

i'm not really sure what having someone riding 10 metres behind the rest of the pack would achieve. he's had a great season, but he'd offer nothing to the team on such a hilly course.

Fair enough, don't think Cummings wanted left out, article claims he is annoyed at BC

Cummings doesn't really fit into the Ellingworth 'ride as a unit' philosophy though

This race won't be won from the break, so his use would be to provide an excuse not to chase. And they're going have ride hard on the front in the later stages to have a chance anyway.

I'd definitely have taken Cummings, but maybe some merit to the idea that small teams leave no room for a wildcard.

That's rubbish. Cummings proved his worth as a team mate more than enough in the 2011 Worlds and in the 2011 London Olympic road test event. He has a massive engine & he can climb.

As for Pete being giving a spot, he is inconsistent as hell, you NEVER know what you're going to get, never mind the fact that - HELLO - he is only just back on the turbo after his collarbone op

Yeah, because at the back of the race was exactly where Cummings was 1. Riding for Cav at the World's, 2. Riding for Cav and England in the Olympic test event in 2011

Just because that's what his preferred tactic is for his trade team, does not mean to say that's what he does when riding for his national squad in major champ

Cummings has known Ellingworth since he was a kid, he knows the sort of rider he likes and his way of doing things. If he wanted to be selected for Rio then conspicuously riding at the back of the peloton most races was a strange way to make his case.

Rich, at some point you might get that not every decision BC or Sky is 100%. I know it's tough.

Ps Stevo wasn't one of Ellingworth's Academy protégées. He was a bit ahead of that
