Orbea Bikes - Opinions? Bit of a Mystery?

Hey everyone, so I'm in the market for a new bike, I've got my eye on a few options at the moment, but the ideal (on paper) option is the Obrea Occam. I've got the likes of the Devinci Troy on there, the Whyte etc etc but theres something about the Occam that is very alluring to me.

I'm wondering what people know of Orbea though, because for love nor money they don't seem to be considered when looking at trail/AM bikes. Is there a reason? I'd like the bike but truthfully i'm not sure if I'm ready to part with 3k for one, when the same money will buy me say the carbon frame'd Troy, it seems like there are other bikes for similar money that offer the same if not similar specs.

A link to a specs page is traditional.

That reply in itself kinda tells me a lot haha but here's the bike that I'm looking at from Orbea https://www.orbea.com/gb-en/bicycles/occam-am-h10/

Great build for the price. No idea how good the frame is though.

Yeah. The scomponents look spot on for me. But the only reviews I've found are on the cargo frames which get good reviews. Just not sure about the alloy.

The geometry looks fairly contemporary, 67deg HA, longish ETT, only the BB height is conservative and compared to the current drop of trail bikes is probably about 20-30mm high, its even higher than on mine!

Bike magazin in Germany gave it a very good but the review isn't yet online as it was only out in paper form last month.

Cheers for that mate I'll keep an eye out, hopefully it's the alloy frame reviewed not the carbon.

As for the geometry I realise the BB height is quite high, here's the specs for my current Kona...http://2k13.konaworld.com/bike.cfm?content=hei_hei#2...Which you can see it also higher than, but what difference will that make to me riding?

Having rode one it feels a thousand times more comfortable than my Kona but then that could be a combination of better sized and smaller wheels I'm not sure.

As I mentioned the geo and components all look good and the price is pretty competitive...what sets off alarm bells is that the media don't really seem to give much mention to them which makes me wonder what the reason is? If anyone know's anyone that owns one or has had any experience that'd be great.

As a comparison the other option I'm looking at is the Devinci Troy...http://www.devinci.com/bikes/bike_707_scategory_166...and the Bird Aeris...http://shop.birdmtb.com/aeris.html...hypothetical situation for you, but if it was your money (£3k) and you're looking for a 140-150mm travel bike what would you guys opt for?

Rockmonkey - Yeah there is a certain appeal about the Devinci that draws me to it. But knowing I could save a couple of hundred quid has me wondering.

Welshkev - cheers mate I had a ride on a Rallon at the same time as the Occam. Both felt great to ride just unsure about the alloy frame and how it holds up.

He's had it over a year with no problems. The usual linkage bearing change but that's it.

own a rallon x10 and have an occam am m10 on order. dont put too much faith in magazine coverage as most reviews are bought indirectly by advertising spend.
all orbeas even the carbons have a lifetime warranty so no need to worry about their durability. my rallon is like a tank.
ribble sportive for the black stuff

Canyon Strive AL 8.0 for the brown and green stuff.
  • great bikes, A few friends own them, alma, occam 29er, occam am and rallons. actually the most bikes in my riding pack are orbeas of some kind !!
A friend recently bought the occam am carbon in orange and that thing is a beauty!!! The rest of the bunch are alu frames and nothing bad to say about them, plus they have a lifetime warranty and dealer down here does a great job.
as for the bb height the rallon is dragging it's @ss on the ground

I'm also looking into getting an Orbea https://www.orbea.com/us-en/bicycles/alma-29-h20-18
Orbea is a Spanish brand and sell the majority of their bikes in Spain (where I currently live), France and I think Germany; I think this could be why it's hard to find English language reviews. Over here they're massive, a lot of people ride them. I am going to their store in Barcelona to take a look and hopefully try some out.

I have an old (2009?) Occam that I keep at my holiday place in Portugal. Every time I ride it I am reminded that it is just perfect. I’ve had lots of nice/better bikes, but the Orbea just quietly gets on with everything. Don’t pay any attention to their lack of visibility here in the UK; I’d have a new one in a heartbeat.

I suspect the OP has bought a new bike in the last 17 months.
He hasn't logged in since October 2016 so won't be reading the late replies anyway.
