Canyon CF SLX or Supersix??

Morning everyone,

Having a think as to what to go for as my new best bike....this is the fun part!

Have fallen in love with the look Canyon CF SLX 8.0 (and it gets many fine reviews).

However, I want the blue frame (Gran Tourismo blue) - they only sell this with Ultegra Di2, not mechanical....which is even more annoying as they sell the mechanical frameset in the blue colour! :evil:

The frameset is ridiculously priced compared to the full bike (or more that the whole bike is very well priced).

Im hoping they might do some deals over the TDF that will mean I can get a reduced frameset price, or else just bite the bullet and go Di2 - does anyone remember what sort of discounts they had on last year?

With all the talk of the supersixes on the forum, just wondering if anyone has ridden both and what opinions are - I'm trying to get a good balance of weight, position and comfort.
I'm not racing - this is purely for my own enjoyment and some club runs - although I do like pushing myself, hence the shortlist of these two bikes, which seem to encourage effort! :P

Might be worth hanging on till August and see what Pauls Cycles get into stock to pick up a bargain??
(not a massive fan of the team colour supersix evo frame they have at the minute)

My Six is a better bike than my Ultimate CF was. That's about as helpful as I can be.

Never ridden a Canyon, but the horror stories of delivery time would be enough to put me off. Love my Supersix though plus you could probably be riding the one you want within a week, a Canyon could be months off. There is a thread on most cycling forum about their poor performance in the last 12-18 months.

And you'll pay £1000 more for a similarly specced Cannondale

The more I look, the better value the Canyon looks.
I think I'm sold, and might even settle for the black frame, as I don't want Di2 (as much as I love the blue frame).

Ill wait for the TDF as Canyon tend to do do some sales, although not always on bikes - usually crazy wheel sales and the like.
Any discount would be the icing on the cake of an already bonkers value bike.

I'm not panicking, and have read all about Canyons delivery problems, so at least I'm going into the process with my eyes wide open! :shock:

i ve just had fantastic service from Canyon, they took back an incorrectly sized Aeroad (which was also delivered more or less on time in March) even though it was outside their 30 day returns limit, i then reordered and Canyon said in stock, delivery w/c 6th june, got the bike yesterday

they made a mistake with the order of a new RD hanger as a spare, so have sent me 2 of the correct ones.

From this and another mates experience of a mtb order, i think canyon are over their crisis.

It's better in each area. Stiffer but more comfy over rough stuff, more directional, nicer front end and steering etc. All incremental but adds up to the whole. That said that was the Ultimate (2013) rather than the new ones so there''s little you can really draw from my experience.

Just like the last post, I had (accident write off) a 2013 slx with di2 and now ride a Black inc supersix. The supersix seems marginally better imo, it descends better/seems to hold its line better and is more comfortable. Cannondale bb is however pants and I really like the look of the new slx.

You sound pretty sold on the Canyon, however, speaking as a himod evo owner, the supersix is not the other option out there which would suit you criteria. If you are based anywhere near Epic cycles they are well worth the visit - they stock the evo but they have other bikes which you could compare against it - like the Bianchi Oltre for example. They also offer great value for moeny, excellent advice and support.

The bottom bracket for the Cannondale is hit and miss and depends on how well the bottom bracket has been made - if it is made to the appropriate tolerance then it is fine, if not there are aftermarket solutions to fit other standards rather than the 30 mm axle cranksets. I prefer the shimano pressfit system of the Canyon as I think it is more reliable than the pressfit 30 bb standard that the evo uses.
