Summer 3/4 bibs

I try to minimize direct sunlight during warmer months and, normally, wear long sleeve baselayer under the jersey, so that saves me getting 'arm screens' with UV protection. When looking to cover up the thighs, i'd rather wear a onesie than fiddle with separate knee protectors that could slide about ( maybe they don't - i don't have experience, thus, if anyone knows of a good pair, i'd like to hear about them!)

So, are there any non-fleecy 3/4 bibs out there to consider? My usual suspect brands only offer warmer options.

Never had a problem with sliding knee warmers. Orca and planet x I have. I'm sure others are the same.

I think you'll struggle a little finding non fleecy summer weight 3/4s as they are not something many people are going to want to wear in summer. DHB make their Aeron shorts in 3/4, but I am not sure how cool they are (certainly cooler than Roubaix).

I use arm screens a lot (Assos) and they are ideal for high temperatures. I would not overly worry about having leg screens moving about either, though I do not use them, but experience with knee/leg warmers is that they do not move about (provided you have decent ones that actually fit you).

I think I would stick with normal bib shorts and look at separate leg screens. If I were in the market, I would be going straight to Assos based on my experiences with the arm screens.

I have some DHB Aeron 3/4 which I wear in Spring / Autumn and they are basically just longer shorts - covering the knee.

However, I'm not sure if they're still available - or what their replacement would be.

    or

These leg warmers are really thin, which means they are also very stretchy around the knee, which in turn both means they are comfortable and dont bunch up or pull when you bend your knee, which in turn means they dont slide down (aided by a good gripper at the top).

If you want light 3/4 or full length tights then the best bet is actually running gear, but then you dont get the bibs or pad (and watch out for running tights with mesh around the crotch, which isnt really up to cycling).
[edit - I hadnt seen the ones linked to above - too slow with my post!]

The Assos tk.434 were just the ticket. Could be cheap IF you can find some.

Thanks for suggestions, i will check them out and let you know how it works out. There seems to be quite low demand on such stuff.

I have some by a company called Suarez, the make gear for Colombia, they have an eBay shop as well. They are not fleece lined and the pad is as good as the castelli free aero.

Sportful Giro are pretty lightweight - I wear them throughout the summer.

These aren't fleecy, are comfortable and very cheap! http://www.tweekscycles.com/cycling-clo ... bib-shorts.
    I also have these:

They are proper summer ones and slightly see-through!

I very much like my Gore knee warmers. They never move and use relatively thin material.

Endura do the FS260-Pro Bibknicker II for £80, which are summer weight - I've worn a pair through our variable summers. I tried a replacement last year but they'd changed and the leg opening was much smaller and too tight for even my skinny legs. As ever, we're all different. I also have the dhb Regulate Light Knee Warmers which are another good option - beware that these are quite long - if you have short legs they'll come down to your ankles. I'm 5'11" and have the medium - even that is on the long side.

Obviously I eulogised a bit about the tk.607 on the website last week as well. They're pretty versatile, though can be overkill at above 18 degrees or so. Bit easier to find "cheaper" now.

I thought about mine earlier. I reckon I've probably used and washed them 50 times this year, or thereabouts. And have owned them for 3. They literally are as good as new.

my 2011 pair are trashed. the fabric has deteriorated and they are becoming threadbare. I think it is sun damage as it is only below where the jersey sits. But they are probably my most worn piece of kit and have been worn and washed hundreds of times, That and the Intermediate Evo Jersey (which is still perfect after 6 years very heavy use).

I will be sorry to see them binned, which will have to happen soon.

Another vote for these, I use these in Spring and Autumn.

I wouldn't bother with 3/4 bibs. Get a pair of castilli knee warmers. More versatile.

I've got some Decathlon bib knickers from 2 or 3 years back that are lightweight (same material as their shorts). Fairly on the cheap and cheerful side of things, but they've lasted me well.

I wouldn't worry anyway because we don't have summers anymore in this country
