I am considering these 2 wheelsets for my 2nd road bike (2011 trek Madone 4.5). I am planning to use them for some training rides, 2-3 times a year climbing trips to Georgia and the Carolinas (I live in Miami), and for a cycling trip that I am planning with some friends to the mountains of Puerto Rico in September

The Williams seem sturdy with quality components and decent weight. I like the rim width 24 mm, btw this would make easier to switch wheels in my high end road bike (look 695 with wide rims zipp 303 firecrest) for some extremely windy days or training rides.

The fulcrum are a bit more narrow at 20.5mm (making the switch in my 1st bike not so seamless) but have ceramic bearings, are very light at 1440g excellent for the climbing trips, have a better rep as a brand (3 of the best riders in my group own them) and in my opinion look better that the Williams

The price of the Williams is $600 and the fulcrum $740

What's your opinion?

Not heard of Williams wheels (must be a US brand) but I'm 99% sure from the dimensions that the rim is a Kinlin XR22t. These retail for about £35 each in the UK, probably less in the US. Is a wheelset build with them worth $600 - not sure. If you've got $600 to spend go and speak to a bike shop and get them to build you something that will suit your needs. Fulcrum are undoubtedly good wheels but spares are expensive and once you wear the rim out you'll not be able to rebuild them.

For that price - and as you're in the US - I would look at Boyd and Flo wheels. Both do 24mm-wide 25mm/30mm-deep shallow alloy rims with a firecrest-style profile. I was considering both a year or more ago - but shipping and import would have made them too expensive for the UK.

Check out Campag wheels too - as Fulcrum are a subsidiary.
