Morning Chaps,

Quick question:

How often do you change your gear cable and outer housing ??

Just indexed my rear mech, all working OK but was thinking should I change it ?

Cheers,

Chris

  • Well I'm not sure when you should do it but I did a strip down of my bike around 18 months and replaced the inner and outer cables then. Like I say I'm not sure if I needed to (haven't seen a remarkable difference) or if I should but just figured whilst it was in pieces I'd crack on.

depends - normally when you can feel a lot of resistance/friction changing gear or braking

When I get sick of my gears not changing properly or when replacing my chain and cassette.

As for routine maintenance, after cleaning the bike I use some light PTFE grease sprayed on some kitchen roll to wipe the exposed sections of outer cable down.
