Headset expander plug

Can anyone tell me are most headset compressor/expander plugs all universal as long as you get the correct width for your steerer tube.have a mate who was dropping down a couple of spacers and his daughter stepped on a wee sleeve which goes inside the steerer tube and broke it and can't find a replacement.hes got a 2015 focus cayo.

    Yes, I think any will do, having said that, some work better than others. I prefer the 40mm long from Planet X.

    Looks like you already know this, but for the benefits of others who may read this...

    At the risk of stating the obvious, a carbon steerer MUST have an expander designed for carbon (no sharp edges, load spread equally around etc.).

    Many/most are now but the old-fashioned 'star type' designed for metal steerers will irreversibly damage the tube.
