Hi Everyone,
Looking for a bit of advice with regards to replacing my crankset. The reason for replacing the whole crankset is due to my pedals chewing up the thread on the right crank arm, which is of course chain side :(.
My current crankset is a Prowheel Gloria, forged alloy, 170mm arms, square taper, 110bcd, steel rings (8 speed) 34/50. With a steel square tapered bottom bracket.
I've just purchased a crank extractor tool, but could do with advice on a crankset to buy. Is any 8 speed (34/50) with 170mm arm crank compatible. I'm thinking about ring alignment with the rear cassette.
Any opinions/ advice would be apreciated.
Cheers
Joe

It all depends on if you are keeping the BB of not. As you will need a crankset that matches the axel length and taper.

  • Yes I was planning on keeping it. Is this axle length a dimension I can take myself without having to remove the bb?

As far as I understand it, road square taper cranksets have a standard construction so that any road crankset should fit the existing BB without any problem eg something like this should work

there's more than one type of square taper bb, i'd guess the one you have is jis, though you could measure to be sure

info on lengths etc. is here...

just look for a jis compact road crankset with the crank length you want - if you can't find 8-speed, 9-speed will be ok
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
