Back protector

What are people's thoughts on the back protectors built in to backpacks? In particular the Evoc ones?
I like the idea of the extra protection bit I'm not sure how much they are likely to add, wouldn't consider one normally for riding but for the enduro races I've entered, a little extra protection seems to be a reasonable idea?
Is it worth it or is my current backpack sufficient to protect my back?

Endura mt500 is being released soon. That comes with a back protector.0

Cheers, hadn't seen that. Had a look and I like the extra features over the Evoc although the lack of differing sizes surely reduces the protection it offers.0

Ended up going with the evoc enduro blackline. Not tested the back protector and hopefully never will, but find the pack excellent as it should be for the price.0

I've got a basic 10l evoc FR and its done its job but you have to make sure you do up all the buckles or it moves and won't protect your spine0

Found that to be key, read the sizing an make sure you get the right one. plus adjusting it correctly to start with. Mine when I got it I couldnt look up properly because of the top of the back, read the instructions adjusted it correctly an works a treat now, though thankfully never needed to use it in anger so to speak.0
