After months of waiting I got the news my Datum 20 was delayed further still, so bit the bullet and got the 10 while I had the chance :D It's Tiagra as opposed to 105 but I can't say I've noticed a difference in performance, just feels like 10 speed Ultegra tbh! Got a few miles under my belt and it's a beautiful ride, the 33mm tires at 60psi are super grippy, roll well and over huge comfort and with massive tyre clearance it'll take cross tyres if I ever decide to give that a bash. Overall chuffed to bits and I reckon it's a stunner to boot

Sadly photographer is not my strongest point, my brother inherited the creative gene! One of the lads at work took the photos, he's done a few of my bikes over the last year or so and also does a cracking job! Tbf it wouldn't take much to better my shoddy efforts!

    Lovely shots, great looking bike.

Looks like a ding or something in the fork halfway down the photos?

Tweeks Cycles. they've had an handful of Datums in, but this way the only medium.
  • OK, cheers. No large in stock. :(

They are rare as hens teeth at the minute, I spoke to the Rep from Sportline who own Genesis and he couldn't get one for himself. As I say I had originally ordered a Datum 20 which is full 105 and hydro brakes but when it was pushed back to April I started to look at other options and Tweeks happened to have this one arrive in stock so I jumped on it while I could. I'm actually glad it's worked out this way, having seen both colours I prefer the red and I can't fault the Tiagra drivetrain or TRP brakes so far, thoroughly impressed by both.
  • It does look good. Like the detail on the inside of the fork.

Wow - that's lovely. One of the nicest bikes I've seen in a long while. The finish looks amazing.

Think Genesis have caught the Zeitgeist with these. They got it spot on with the Croix de Fer previously and I think this is another winner ( obviously as the it was voted BOTY by Road CC.)

Worried a little about Genesis when they went 953 for racing ( Great bike ) but didn't think it would do the volumes they needed to stay successful as the Halo point of the brand, these however are justifiably out stripping demand.

I nearly went for a Volare 853 Frameset with the Enve fork, but the Weight put me off in the end and I got a good deal on an Evo Six instead, If these ever come up Frameset only though I could be seriously tempted.

Great bike, Amazing Photos. And I agree , think the red is a stunning colour way

Great paint on there. A bike after my own heart. :)
  • Finaly a genesis which looks good!

Crox de fer just looks old hat really but this puts it in the running for my next purchase.
    Advocate of disc brakes.

Looking at my next build project and these frames are on the shortlist. Only thing that's offputting is the BB86 bottom bracket but I'm sure I could fit a 24mm spindle converter easily enough

Would appear that Tweeks have stock on offer tho' not in my size M(56) and not in that drop-dead red colourway

Seen both the 10 and 20 at my LBS. The red is absolutely gorgeous in the flesh. Enjoy!

Completely agree, Genesis have absolutely nailed it with the Datum. Nothing else I liked looked as versatile as this does. It's been happy commuting for the last 2 weeks and yet on longer it feels as fast and as spritely as many lighter, racier bikes. Add in the fact it'll take cross tyres and I don't think there's many bikes out there that can compete. I'm absolutely loving it so far!

The bb is a standard Shimano pressfit, no need for a 24mm conversion :)

Medium frames are now completely sold out from what I understand, so unless you had a pre-order you might be out of luck. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for large and small frames as well.

Got a few hundred miles under my belt on the Datum and am chuffed to say it has blown away all expectations! :D Not even sure where to start praising, it's all been fantastic!

The frame is both gorgeous to look at and pleasure to ride with 45/50psi in the tyres it all but eradicates lumps and bumps in the road yet feels awesome when you put the power down. the geometry is great as well, being from a MTB background the longer wheelbase and wider tyres give me loads of confidence to really push on in the bends and over mixed ground it feels super confident.

The main thing I was concerned with was the Tiagra groupset and TRP brakes but I needn't have worried, both perform very well. The Tiagra feels just like 10 speed ultegra I've used on older bikes, if I was really nit-picking the gaps between the ratios are a little big further up the range, but overall the 50/34 and 11-32 cassette offers a great range of gears from pootling along to chaingang sessions after work. The brakes are great as well, loads of power and if you can't afford or don't want full hydraulics these are the best option out there IMO.

Overall I'm chuffed to bits with the bike, can see why it's had such great reviews in the press and won various awards. It's certainly the best road bike I've ever ridden!

Have just ordered Datum 20 on my company C2W. Fortunately my LBS has a customer looking for a black frame so swapping over full 105 to the Red frame...cant wait.

What's the weight like, with all the components?

Weight with Shimano m520 pedals is 22lbs dead (yes, blasphemy to run mtb pedals I know!)

It doesn't feel as heavy to ride, it carries that extra couple of pounds over a non disc, thinner tyred Carbon bike very well, I'd much rather live with a bit of extra weight for the added grip in the corners and better braking

SPD pedals are fine, I use them too, but the XT ones.

I was hoping a bit less, that's the same weight of my Fugio, which is steel... mind you, my wheels are probaly lighter than yours...

The fulcrum are about 1900g so changing to something lighter could easily knock a pound or so off. Tbh it carries its weight well, I think the only thing I'll change on this is when stuff wears out. Having said that I have a Fabric scoop on order as the Genesis saddle doesn't seem to agree with my backside all that well!

They still have a couple in my LBS. Must see if I can get a test ride in...

  • Sorry for the hijack - I am very keen on one of these but cant find any hard evidence of a Datum wearing mudguards, I know it has mounts but that doesnt translate in some competitors of guards fitting properly.

    Can anyone help please?
