EQS weren't invited as they take too long to change their shoes.

So, 4 flat stages and an 11km ITT, the usual fare.

A bit of training for the majority, a few chances for the sprinters and distinct lack of TTers on the startlist.

Time bonuses 10", 6", 4" for the final, 3", 2" and 1" for the intermediate sprints.

Does this mean Boonen is doomed for the cobbled classics?

Or is there some kind of other rule that kicks in? Richn95?
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

It throws everything into disarray. Although in reality, he was giving it a miss this year anyway.

This should be Cav's for the taking shouldn't it? All that track work should do some good for his TT..

48km to go and there's a lead group of about 20 riders with 1min back to the main peloton. Cav in the front group with ebh and farrar, not sure who else is there to contest a sprint though other than (probably) kristoff.

33km to go, peloton at 55sec but started messing around a bit by the look of things.

Cav takes 2nd intermediate sprint so virtual leader on the road.

Cav v Kristoff: very tasty. Bennett, Guardini, Modolo and GVA also there to spice it up a bit?

    Kristoff ftw.

Not sure about Bennett bit I think the others are there. BMC there in force to be fair so I expect Oss to go off the front at some point just for laughs.

    Edit - Bennett is there.

Cav leaves kristoff for dead for the win, modolo 2nd, guardini 3rd.
  • Cav gets win number 150 from Modolo and Guardini.
    Kristoff rusty.

Strange sprint, only a dozen or so riders left at the end.

A group of 20 went clear very early on in the stage, and the peloton never brought them back.

False. Take about 15 off and you're getting there.

All competitions, including TTT and points I think is 150.
Last week in Dubai they had it at 149.
    Saying that, I didn't check.

Never mind all of that. The important thing is Cav isn't finished after all (until next time he gets beaten by Kittel)

Oh, and as a Qhubeka rider, he's registered as My Man.

Any idea why EBH was sat on Cav's wheel the whole time and sprinted for himself?

At a guess, there's a 11k time trial coming up so EBH might be DD's better GC option, so it worth him trying for bonus seconds himself.

  • Yeah, when there's only around a dozen contesting the win on the opening stage of Qatar, it's always worth finishing as high up the leaderboard as possible.

    Found that quite entertaining.

20 man sprints let you see exaclty what's going on.
