So, I tried on a medium 2016 mossa tonight - the outcome was fit wise it did fit very well. But, the front comes up high - level with or just above my navel... What are peoples thoughts on this that own one currently?

Everything else seemed ok, very tight everywhere and the rear tail still seemed low enough to be effective.

Parentini don't seem to have a sizing chart so that I can see the difference between the medium and large for length comparison.

Don't worry, it's designed to fit perfectly when you're on the bike. The front is short to allow you to reach forward on the bike without the fabric bunching up.

We've written a guide to sizing the Mossa here http://parentinitestteam.com/2015/11/06/parentini-mossa-how-to-achieve-the-right-fit-and-size/

• Sit on the bike in it. if the front is still too short then its too short, if not its perfect. Dont judge it standing up, its not designed for that.

I realise this is the ideal way to test it - the closest I could get was standing like I was on the bike, but I wasn't in bibs and I didn't have a bike available as I was at a club trophy giving evening. I think it would be ok, I do have quite a big saddle to bar drop so I am quite far over. But I don't think I'm going to be able to get the correct way to test it anytime soon without just buying one.

The medium was so tight that I think a large would work too - but if I could see the actual difference in lengths I could actually judge how much better it would be length wise.

Did you try a friend's Mossa on? If so, is it an 'original' 2014 version or the later 2015/16 version? Because the 2015 version had the front lengthened by 1.5-2cm (depending on size).

I've just measured a Large and a Medium 2015 version. The L's body is 47cm, the M 46cm, so 1cm difference. HOWEVER, my old 2014 Medium front measures 44cm.

Measurements are from the top of the zip to the bottom

Sorry about my lack of reply. I tried on his medium but it was with casual clothing on so wasn't the best test I could have done - I'm sure it was a new model as it was blue, but I could be wrong? Either way I remember it coming up at the front more than it actually did - not a huge issue but there is a slight bunching.

I went with a medium in black and a black pesante base layer. Base layer is easily the best thing I've used, fits so well - definitely going to buy a few more parentini base layers.

As I said above the medium jacket isn't actually as small as I remembered, but it fits pretty good, very tight on the shoulders and arms. But there is a tiny bit of bunching at the front, but my saddle to stem drop is quite extreme so it will exaggerate it a bit more than normal. Possibly could have got away with the small version to reduce bunching on the front, but it might have been too small on the shoulders and arms...

First ride this morning, snowy blizzards, 0 degrees, 50mph winds. Rapha pro team and rain jacket for sale...
• The Pesante base layer is just a hilarious thing. When I unwrapped it I wondered whether it would fit my youngest child. He's 3. Out of the bag it's tiny. Once worn it grows a little. But it's a bloody fab base layer and fits brilliantly.

Glad you like the Mossa. It's an exceptional bit of kit. You picked a good day to try it!

• Read both reviews thoroughly, I was convinced it was the jacket I needed before you had got one, but they definitely helped sway the decision even more.

I was going to buy a cheap gabba ss for spring training, but instead I've decided there's no point as it would be useless at rain protection and that would be it's main use at those times. My new plan is to buy a mossa.2 for slower social sundays/extremely cold days and then a short sleeve mossa(maybe the 2014 version, if I can get one cheap) for late autumn and spring training/racing. Those three jackets should be sufficient for all year round...

Wonder how the mossa jersey compares to the short sleeve jacket?

Also, how does the mossa.2 compare size wise?

Based on his track record, anyone the same size as Bendertherobot should just wait five minutes and buy his second hand when he finds something newer and shinier and sells them on...!

Having said that, it does very much read like for the first time in his life, he has found 'the one'.

Identical sizing. Albeit that they've built in sizing more conducive to the club run rather than the racing run. Still form fit mind. I'm definitely going to get a short sleeve version for the spring as well. Perhaps custom. We will see. Looks like another week of solid Mossa use again.

Thats partly why I am very interested in reading his reviews - when refering to fit and sizing his experience matches my own.
Saying that it appears that Grill, who is very much like Bender, albeit with bikes, is a similar height and rides a similar frame size to me, so I will have to save same some money when a certain English becomes available in six months time  `
• I just wanted to warn any prospective Mossa buyers who were thinking of ordering a Mossa from Italy. BE CAREFUL, because there is an Arrowind version of the Mossa. This isn't sold in the UK. It is a lightweight, windproof only version, not ideal for Winter riding or riding in the rain. A few customers have been caught out with this.

The Arrowind version is 'plain'. The correct Mossa has a white stripe down the left arm and also features a "Storm Shield' tab. Make sure the version you're ordering has the Storm Shield fabric.

The the stripe on the left arm also be black (in the orange version)?

Yes, my apologies. The Storm Shield Mossa features a white or black stripe on the sleeve. I'd really recommend buying from a dealer though, as getting the right size and fit for the Mossa really helps the performance of the jacket
• Used mine for a short, muddy, round trip today without guards. And, whilst I should wash it later, a quick wipe over with a cloth has removed any traces of dirt. Essentially the dirt bundled up with the moisture and then wiped off.

That looks an awful lot like the alpha jacket

Anyway my many problem with these foul weather items is that they lose there properties after the first wash, is the mossa any better?
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
• Yes. Primarily because the fabric is waterproof

I think the problem is that we have all seen the emperors new clothes come around several times before, with everyone evangelising about some fantastic new product that can do just about everything short of curing cancer. But then a year or two later, those claims dont pan out, the garments arent waterproof anymore, they lost their coating or the waterproof layer perished or split, or they rusted and crumbled to dust or some such, at which time the new emperors new clothes have just been announced...

Not saying that this isnt the one, the only, that finally lives up to the hype. Just that if it is, it would be bucking the trend that has been set so many times before.

Having said that, those new ones (in red) look sooo good that I might just have to give it a go. I am sitting pondering whether to keep or return a Sportful Fiandre Extreme Neoshell right now, because that offers a compelling case too, and I love the fit and styling but I am just not convinced it will work as well as they say. This new red mossa makes me more inclined to ditch the neoshell and give the mossa a go - it really does look fantastic, which was one area that the old mossa didnt really grab me.

Endura used to use windtex for their jackets, not anymore, I wonder why?

Parentini answer that here: http://parentinitestteam.com/2015/03/11/the-mossa/" target="_blank
So if the Windtex membrane clearly works, why do cyclists have such bad memories of it? The reason is how the membrane was used with various fabrics and how the garment was cut.

A lot of manufacturers thought that by adding Windtex to their normal fleece lined winter tops, that they had produced the perfect all-round winter top. Problem is the sweat generated sits in the fleece fabric, and finds it difficult to transfer to the Windtex membrane and evaporate.

Another problem was that the vast majority of these jackets were ill-fitting, creating gaps and pockets so that yet again the sweat found it difficult to transfer to the membrane.

What the design team at Parentini have done is engineer a jacket that works with the excellent properties of the Windtex membrane.

So when you first try on your Mossa, you’ll notice it’s tight. It’s supposed to be. The stretchiness of the fabric not only means you’ll be comfortable, it also means that the fabric sits in direct contact with your body, meaning the sweat generated transfers instantly to the membrane. Which is why Parentini didn’t bother with taped seams. Taping the seams would result in a stiff jacket and the little ingress of rain at these points is far outweighed by the benefit of the skin hugging fabric. You need the sweat to get to the membrane quick because this is the clever bit. Your sweat in the Windtex membrane acts as a protective shield – whilst it’s evaporating, it’s actually keeping you warm. Which is why you don’t need to worry about the thinness of the jacket.

I dare say you know which one I like the look of:

Although if I do get another one, I think it would be the Mossa 2.

Is this the 2017 year product? As I can't see these colourways in any of the supposedly 2016 offerings.

• Yes. Though if they are up on site now it would be weird for them not to appear until late Summer. I've emailed to ask. . Note that the Mossa is similar to the current model but new colours. The above is the Mossa fashion (ditto the Red one). It's the one I'd go for.

• I will find out about availability about the new range. To clarify, the original Mossa now has a protective flap over the zip, and is available in the deep red.

The version you guys are getting excited about (and rightly so) is the Mossa 'Fashion'. It's exactly the same performing jacket, just a different design. I've seen them in the flesh and they are stunning.
• It also removes the arm stripe which, for me, is a plus as it means that sleeve is now utterly waterproof.

Nooooooo.....

Actually, if it is Autumn then it was a mistake showing it now - because some of the people who might have bought the original now will wait and may not end up buying in the end because alot happens in that time.

I speak from experience because I was wavering, which normally means I end up buying something, but now I dont want to buy the current model and will wait. In the mean time, I will probably keep the Sportful Neoshell and try that out. This new model would have pushed me into buying but now it has actually made me resolve not to buy before the Autumn at least.

apreading, I think you have enough kit already, no need for more!

Instead of chasing the dragon of new kit, wear out what you already have and save the money you spend on clothing for a new bike. You'll be able to buy a carbon superbike in a few months I would have thought :).

This advice goes for BTR too :)
