just replaced my Bontrager hardcase 23x700 tyres with Continental grand prix 4 seasons 25x 700 tyres and they seem a lot better rolling then the 23s,

Those Bontrager Hardcase tyres are the worst rolling "road" tyres I've ever used. I don't think you can draw any conclusion by comparing 23c in one tyre type with 25c in another tyre type. There is evidence of wider tyres being faster but there are a lot of other factors involved - and the main one you've come across is a good tyre v. a cheaper one - and that's by far the most important in your survey of one.
Decent tyres will feel a lot nicer than heavy basic ones.I'm left handed, if that matters.0
