Phone charging while cycling

Hi, I am planning a bike tour and wondered how people manage with keeping a mobile phone charged while cycling. Charging up overnight wont be a problem as I'll be B&B'ing, but during the day with the sat nav and map my ride app running it wont last the day.
Does anyone use the new type dynamo devices such as http://sivacycle.com/ or comparables - any thoughts on value? Do they add noticeable resistance?
Appreciate any suggestions or advice.

Have used one of these in the past. Once a ride goes over 10-12 hours of mapping even an Edge battery gives up. Tend to use Anker ones myself. In the Jersey pocket with a 1m cable means you can charge on the move.0 -

Buy a cheap Nokia with no frills to use as your main phone, and put a pay as you go sim into your smartphone and keep turned off (or in airplane mode) whilst not in use.
Plan your route in advance and put onto a Garmin Edge 500 as a breadcrumb trail, using your phone map only if you go wrong somewhere- that battery on the Edge 500 will last well over 12 hours of riding.0 -
Be crazy and use a map, having planned out your route beforehand over a few bottles of red whilst getting all excited about your forthcoming trip.

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. The reviews of the various charging devices using the bikes kinetic energy don't fill me with confidence given the price tag. I could use a paper map as suggested and cut them out, laminate and throw away after moving to the next page but seems a bit crazy when it's all held on my phone already. I have been looking at the edge 500 and others but wonder if it's an extra unnecessary expense. Best option seems to me to be a recharger/power pack of some sort - thanks for the specific suggestions.
