The Sirrus is getting a little beyond now so was wondering about doing the whole singlespeed thing, as I only really use one gear in London.
So: recommendations for single speed, needs decent brakes, going to live in London, so nothing flash. 'Guards clearance essential. Drops or flats OK.
Budget say £500-600?

A single speed conversion makes most sense, it can be done for about £60 and you have a reasonably decent starter bike there.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Tensioner and single speed conversion kit I'd get from planetx along with a non ramped chainweel, you can use any normal chain or KMC do a single speed specific one if you really want (waste of time in my opinion), a friend whop does a lot of single speeding just uses a cheap 7-speed chain for about £6, or if your current one is in good condition, use that.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Geared bike chainrings have ramps and pins. Single speed bikes (or single chainring bikes, as are popular with some offroaders) don't need them. Some have thick & thin teeth to help hold the chain on the ring better.
In short a new chainring isn't strictly necessary but will work better.0 -

The whole design of of a normal chainwheel or chainring is aimed at shipping the chain onto another chainring as easily as possible. When riding singlespeed you most definitely do not want this to happen. Hence a non-ramped chainwheel or to borrow a design/nomenclature from the MTB world an I/O or narrow/wide chain ring.

You won't need a narrow wide for single speed as there is no chain motion to derail it, but you do really want a proper dingle speed ring or crankset.
