Just checking my bike out for a ride tomorrow and the bottom bracket is stiff, thought it was chain at first but dropped chain and crank arms do not spin freely, they move but stop as soon as I take my hand off.
Is there any maintenance or adjustment I can do or is it a case of new BB, maybe thinking water has penetrated seals as it was really wet and muddy last time I used it :(
If it's a new BB any recommendations? I think it's press fit so best to use a Specialized dealer?
BB is Bottom Bracket: SRAM PF30, OS press-in bearing, sealed cartridge
Thanks

It's dead. If may loosen up with a little riding, but it is only a matter of time until play develops.

SRAM PF30 bottom brackets aren't known for their long life. If you fancy something decent, Hope do one with replaceable bearings that's much better sealed. You'd be looking for a PF46/30 Short. Any decent quality bike shop should be able to point you in the right direction, you don't need a Specialized dealer.

    Thanks.
Will I do any serious damage if I carry on riding it or will it just get stiffer the until it fails, just want to get out tomorrow! Sounds like it's knackered anyway so will get it replaced after Xmas. Still turns with minimal effort just doesn't spin on its own if you understand what I mean?

If I bought a Hope BB are the bearings replaceable without specialist tools?

It probably won't get any stiffer, it won't be very smooth though. If there is no play, it's not usually a problem. I got several rides out of my XT bb when it started to grumble before it had any play

And I'm sorry, I can't remember how easy it is to change a Hope bb bearing.
