Cycling 5 Nations - Thoughts?

We planning on cycling the 5 home nations (supported) over the course of 3 days next year taking in around 110 miles each day.

Plan is to start out from Carlisle and cycle to Cairnryan for an evening ferry to Belfast and overnight. Day 2 would be Belfast to Dublin with another evening ferry across to Holyhead and overnight. Finally day 3 will be Holyhead and home to Manchester.

From early research we've happy with the mileage and also the elevation gain isn't too arduous. Also think we can get a decent route on roads without taking in many A roads and in particular avoid the A75 from Gretna to Stranraer.

Any thoughts - anything we may have missed?

Some form of rest? For instance the 1st day 110 mile ride to Cairnryan. The ferry leaves at 19.30 and arrives at 20.45. You can eat on the ferry but then you need to get to wherever you are staying and have a shower.
Get up the next day and repeat.
  • Parts of the A75 are difficult to avoid. Personally I don't like the pressure of having to catch a ferry at the end of a ride. Make sure you know how far in advance of the departure time you need to be at each port. Last time I went from Cairnryan the bike had to be put on a bus to be taken on the ferry.
