I'm slowly getting the impression my saferide 80 isn't lasting as long out on rides. It used to be good for a couple of hours on mostly full power

One consideration at this time of year is that the colder it is the less power nimh batteries put out - this is true to some extent with all batteries but particularly true with NiMh unfortunately.
Depending on your usage patterns you might want to look at getting low self-discharge aka 'pre-charged' or 'hybrio' or 'eneloop' batteries such as these:

These hold their charge better than standard NiMh rechargeables (such as those linked above) so if you're only using the light occasionally they're a better bet.
With that said, at this time of year I'm charging my saferide every other day so there's no benefit to be had there! I'm just glad it has the usb charge socket.0
