  I knew he had kidney problems which hampered his career but that's a shock What a talent.

  Changed the game, saddened more because it was a sudden death than anything else. Poor guy had his kidney problems for awhile.

  As a plastic (half) kiwi he was an absolute hero. Won't ever forget watching him bulldozer his way through 95.

  Just watching some of his best tries again I had forgotten how quickly he accelerated and how good his footwork was he wasn't all just power. Led the way for modern wing play

  The South African World Cup is the first Rugby World Cup I remember watching and I remember everyone copying Lomu's runs at school. I met him when I was pretty young too.

  Couple those stats with the fact that he did the 100m in 10.7 seconds. I cannot imagine trying to defend against that.

  Really sad news. I hadn't realised he was so ill again, saw him interviewed during the RWC and he seemed fine but then he never even told his international coach how I'll he was even when he was getting criticised for not working hard enough. It's very rare to hear and read so much about someone so famous without coming across a bad word. He might have changed wing play but whilst wingers have got bigger none have come close to equalling his combination of power with speed and athleticism. One of the highlights of the rugby I've watched in my lifetime was being in a pub in Plymouth cheering as he bulldozed Underwood and Catt for 'that' try in'95.
