    Snazzy overshoes with lights in...

We'll see how long the lights last, I can imagine water getting into them.
Do report back, been tempted by these...

    +10 :D

OK, so I've ridden them wet and dry now and really like them. Rain was coming down quite strongly yesterday, but my shoes were still very dry when I got home, the elastic at the top seems to do a very good job of keeping water out. Nicely warm, well fitted and the lights were still working too.

Only annoyance is that the switch for the lights is very sensitive so you'll switch the modes many times over whilst wrestling them onto your shoes.

Do you ride with SPDs or other sort of cleats? I find the bigger more out and proud cleats allow more waterproof shoecovers - ie they can go underneath the shoe a bit; whereas the more mtb sort with recessed cleats need to end on the welt of the sole and never really work. If you are riding SPD and keeping dry in the rain of this week PLUS the dinky little light then my credit card is about to get some more exercise

Keo's, dear boy. What kind of a monster do you think I am?

I still might give them a try - my current overshoes where keeping more water in than out by the time I got to work this morning

A brompton. In Orange/Titanium S2L. Because my osteo says I'm not allowed to ride my road bike to work every day (40 mile return) and the PT is a PITA.

I received a Cateye Volt 400 from CRC yesterday to use as a helmet light. The cost was ~£43 after the BC membership discount which made it acceptable value for money from a lumen per pound perspective.

    Garmin Vector 2

Trying to bring a bit more structure to my training this winter...

And less reliability. I feel for you as I know around 8 or 9 people with vectors. all have had issues. get them back to the vendor and get a quarq or power2 max. I wish I were kidding. 2 I know have the vector 2's and have seen no improvement. when they work they are fine...

My Vector 2's I have had since the summer have been troublefree, and very easy to install.
Very pleased with them do far.

I might be forced to pop down there next week now it's going to be my "local". Is there anywhere good on that place to get a coffee? Went into that cafe just behind Rapha but it seemed dead and very old fashioned

30T inner replacement for the triple on my Marin - as it has started trying to throw me off the bike

Once fitted, it will have an FSA 52T, Zircral 41T, and this Shimano 30T - a chainring compilation if you will.
    shimano-ultegra-fc6603-triple-chainrings-silver.jpg

On and two Durano pluses for the Synapse - £43ish from Merlin, as they had 10% off yesterday.

Ripped another hanger of the Boardman today. New hanger and rear mech on order. Felt very enterprising hacking out a few miles in SS mode until my mate popped a spoke on his Zondas. Definitely unrideable

Wish that was good advice, but IMO the "science" based people are *far* less helpful. All the various ones of those I've seen have recommended nothing but more tests by their esteemed colleagues in some other field, which presumably helps pay for the specialists ski holidays in Aspen, but achieves nothing for me but increased risk of cancers from all the f***ing scans. I've been prescribed a succession of drugs so awful one script had me seriously contemplating suicide after just two days on the medication, the rest merely give me chronic ulcers, ruined digestion, lousy constipation, but f-all pain relief.

At least the osteopath and chiropractic guys do something useful.

Castelli Thermosuit. Maybe not "just bought" (purchased back in July as an early birthday present) but first ride out in it today, given the relatively low temps and fog this morning:
    image.jpg1_zpsnekb5sco.jpg
Really impressed. Regulated temperature well as it warmed up later in the morning and shrugged off the damp mist easily enough (it's a Gabba up top after all). Also REALLY comfy, absence of bib straps work well. Not bad for for the £115 paid (less 5.something % cashback at the time as well) 8)

That's good to hear, I have yet to try mine yet, as not felt it was cold enough - look forward to it though, looks like a lovely bit of kit.

In other Cannondale Evans news - I discovered yesterday that there is some nasty scrapes on the inside of the rear stay - looks like they can only have been caused by the chain when it was setup, and worst of all, the spec said it is supplied with a C2 carbon 350mm seatpost, and they have fitted a C2 alloy 300mm seatpost! So not only is it the wrong item material wise, but it's technically unsafe as I can't leave the recommended 90mm of seatpost in the frame

Have e-mailed them pics over to them, together with a link to where the seatpost is available from (for £70) and asked that they can either source it for me, or refund me £70 so I can order it myself.

Will be calling them on Tuesday if I do not hear back from them by the end of tomorrow.

N=1 does not equal evidence. Unfortunately most of the stuff these quacks spout is unscientific nonsense. At best placebo at worst downright dangerous.

Eh? Of course it is evidence. It may not be valid proof that the "quackery" you claim they spout is in fact real, but it is certainly evidence in support of the claim that (some of) what they do is very beneficial.

There's loads of shysters out there for sure. There's also plenty of very good therapists. FWIW, two of the specialists I've seen - Orthopaedic surgeon, and a lecturing Professor in neurology have both suggested I try one of your quacks. Even gave me names to contact.

Throw enough poop etc- some bits work simply because of chance. The actual premise behind both osteopathy and chiropratic is quackery at its finest. There is evidence only in lower back pain for manipulation but that is it. Lower back pain is often one of those conditions where it is tricky to find an actual cause and in common with these types of conditions "alternative" treatments are often quite successful.

Anyway, happy to agree to disagree and get back to buying cycling stuff! ;)

If the alternatives are "often quite successful", why are they quackery?

I really don't give a toss whether there's science or voodoo involved - I just want results, as in, less pain, better movement. So far, the only group to delivery any result for me is the nutters. :D Medical specialists (the science division!) have achieved a big fat zero.

  • Bought a MagicShine 858 claimed 1000 lumens, any how a darn bright fairly broad beam, great for seeing, but is effectly like a full beam for any other traffic, even on low. So do need to exersize some care.

And a Garmin 520 mainly because I wanted a toy, let's be honest. Enjoying the temp display etc, live segments thus far I can't stand but let's see.

If you run out of real estate on the bars then go for a Garmin combo mount and XL Exposure mount from Raceware direct and mount the light under the Garmin. It's what I did with my Magicshine till the light died leaving me with batteries and no light for them. Does the 858 use oval or round connectors? I've got spare batteries of both types. PM if interested, got to figure out how many I've got of which batteries.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Round connectors, though have to say so far the battery life is impressive I mostly run on high, and it lasts for a good week or more, before starting to change colour etc. May well reduce as temps get to zero or there abouts.

I mount the garmin and the battery on the stem, one under one on top, seems to work thus far.

Arione Versus carbon railed saddle for a bargain £95 or so (this for the still unbuilt Scott CR1 SL), 2x SRAM971 chains for tourer and MTB, pair of Shimano MT71 touring shoes (spare pair - the ones I bought for Norway are so good I can't imagine Shimano can improve on them so £70 clearance at CRC was irresistible!)

That's how I had my first Magicshine battery but the faffing around of a few minutes when it came to riding home meant I had the battery in the pannier bag with an extension cable along the top tube to the light.

  • I was a bit surprised when my new 6800 compact crank turned up. Just because they were at hand, I weighed my old 6700 39/53 double as it came off - the old crank was only about 30g heavier than the new one and it's reasonable to think much of that comes from the larger rings. I'm only surprised because I think that there's normally a weight reduction with each generation (especially as we're now 4 arms rather than 5) but it shows it pays to check. Do I care? No.
