Good entry level bike for beginners

I have recently started biking down the trails at Cannock chase, at the moment I'm using my cousins bike but I'm looking at getting one my self I have seen the Boardman Mountain Bike Comp HT 650B at halfords for £500.00 and a few people have recommend it, I'm wondering if any one has any other recommendations around this price before I go and buy it

Decent bike for the money, few others about of similar spec eg Whyte or Btwin/Decathlon. Test riding a few is always a good shout.0
