Revelation Service Problem

Hi All,

Just completed a lower leg service on my Revelation (RC3), but then ran into a problem with my wife's RL version.

I got the lowers off, with a pop and the air spring shaft (if that's what it's called) has disappeared inside the stanchion. It's like there is negative air pressure that is sucking it up inside. I've taken the air cap off and I can push it down with a stick, but it just goes back in.

I reassembled the fork and pumped them up to see if it would equalize ( as I read that the transfer port may be blocked). But nothing happened. It made if very difficult to get the lowers off.

Any tips on how I can solve this?

If it's like my sid you need circlip pliers. Check sram website service section . There's no better resource .

Yeah, I've ordered a set of circlip pliers and downloaded the Revelation service manual. It seems like there is a vacuum in the air spring assembly. This fork had a lot of oil in it and lots of grease in the air chamber (compared to mine).

There's a valve on the bottom of the air shaft I believe if you can to it. A tip I foun out for releasing negative air pressure by just removing the bolt from the bottom of the lowers.

Cheers for the suggestion. The lowers are off the fork at the moment. I'll have a look at the valve as that rings a bell now. I remember seeing it when I removed the lower bolt.

All is well!

I managed to get to the valve and push the air shaft back out and all is fine. Both forks feel buttery smooth now

Common problem doing bottom end service.
The air spring should be fully extended when you reassemble everything otherwise you'll end up with this partial vacuum problem and not be able to get full extension when the leg is pumped up.
You'll do this once only.

Yeah, that's the thing. This is the first time I've had the lowers off the bike. Looks like someone has already done the lowers before the bike was shipped as mine was nearly dry, but my wife's fork had a lot of oil in.
