After Stage 3
Does anyone know where there is a simple list of withdrawals?
Stage 3 result:
1. Elia Viviani (SKY) 5h08'18"

3. Matteo Trentin (EQS) st
General Classification:

If the weather stays good the views along the North East Coast will be lovely as the riders go through the land of my fore-fathers.

One lump pretty close to the start of a very long stage means we are almost certain to see the powerful teams try to set up a bunch sprint - but stranger things have happened than a breakaway succeeding.

GB ream doing OK in team rankings and much higher than domestic teams . Average age must be around 19 1/2 ?
Noticeable how the domestic GB teams are appearing more and more professional in attitude. Used to be a bit of a David and Goliath situation -now they seem to be better at holding their own0 -

17km to go, Sky led peloton have brought the break back after Movistar did much of the early work. Well, I say Movistar, I mean Dowsett.
With it looking like a more traditional sprint finish I'm going for Cav.0 -

Also, one of the commentators or analysts noted the other day that the Conti teams would target the first three days of the race for jerseys or stage wins but tended to tire after that, whereas the WT teams could stay at the same level. Looking at the highlights the commentators were saying that Stybar set up Gaviria, but the only EQS rider I could see was Cav????

Think the last point is pretty accurate from the evidence in this sub-forum.
It seemed a slightly strange way for EQS to setup the sprint, as per Renshaw's comments on ITV4 highlights, for both Gaviria AND Cav to be setup, quite risky no, for them to deal with both, anyway, Renwshaw was quoted as saying a couple of riders came under Cav on the approach to the line so Gaviria became the #1 pick for the team, Cav certainly realised ahead of the line that he wasn't in the hint for the win as he was celebrating his teammate's run for the line with a good few metres to go.
Cav does not look like the sprinter of old when he'd boss a sprint like this IMHO but to say he was "nowhere" shows ignorance given what happened.0 -
Watching the finish I don't see how Cavendish helped Gavi when Cav was on his wheel not the other way round. Three men for Etixx, so don't tell me Cav was playing the backstop. Renshaw spent tons of time looking for Cav as well who was clearly having trouble staying on his wheel. Gavi on the other hand was well placed the whole time and did a stunner of a sprint. Stage 2 finished in a reduced sprint, it wasn't a sprint stage as such though and caused so major times losses. It still looked like a stage for the break up until the last km or so.0 -
