and now i have to pay someone to take it out for me (its on my powermeter and dont want to ruin it more).

but it makes me think that my allen keys are rubbish.

any recommendations for allen keys before i pull the trigger on these:

Halfords professional kit is good for the money. Also comes with a lifetime guarantee. I've used their professional range for a while now with no problems.

I got the Wera one and found them great.
Have a look around as Wera has some more comprehensive sets (for more$$$), or you can get the Topeak Combo Torq Wrench (TPS-SP07) with 5 bits included.

Moral of the story: Buy the best tools you can afford. Never ever use cheap tools.

I had to stop going on HUKD because too many people posted "20 screwdrivers for 20p" type deals.

The best allen keys are made by Bondhus or Wera. You can't go wrong with either.

Next time you round out a hex bolt, especially if it's not on such a critical item, you can almost always extract them by tapping in the largest size of torx bit that will fit. Very common issue on brake shoes with removable pads, as the pad retaining bolt is susceptible to corrosion.
