This is a good watch (from about 1:10) and highlights the ridiculous and unfair arguments people are making against Muslims by blaming Islam for all the world's problems

You're wasting your time, this forum appears to have been taken over by Britain First in the last few months. They're only going to believe their own prejudiced views.

The problem is that the question he was asked was whether Islam promotes violence, but he doesn't refer to Islamic teachings. He's right to say that you shouldn't talk about Muslims as if they were one homogenous people, he's (generally) right to say that people will be violent or peaceful despite their religious beliefs, but he just doesn't answer the question.

he does, he says islam doesn't promote peace or violence, it is a religion and people will make of it what they will, so if it is a violent person they will interpret it in a violent way, if they are a peaceful person they will interpret it in a peaceful way. The same can be said for all religions.

He doesn't actually back it up with any evidence from the Koran though. And when people ask does Islam/Christianity promote x, y or z, what they are actually asking is whether the Koran/Bible promotes x, y or z. It's reasonable to argue that people have misinterpreted the Koran, or to say that the book contradicts itself in parts and devout Muslims have to choose which interpretation they are going to follow, but it would be better to actually discuss those parts of the Koran are seen to promote peace or violence, and explain why the peaceful interpretation of the religion is the superior one.

It's not really his fault that he doesn't go in to detail - he was given a 10 minute interview. Whether or not a book that is hundreds of pages long and subject to plausible different interpretations isn't something that can be answered in 10 minutes whilst simultaneously fielding questions from the journalists.

Still, could be worse, if you want a really ignorant question, check this one out with the same man. It;s Fox News you'll be shocked to hear.
