Just looking to get son #1's old Hardrock ready for son #3, and the Suntour XCM fork is rusted to buggery.

Budget is sub £100. Anything superior to Rockshox XC30? Needs to be straight 1 1/8, not sure what else I need to factor into it.

Thanks for advice as ever!

You're going to struggle to find better than an XC30 unless you go for a used Rockshox Recon.

Just a thought - I'll be sending this to LBS to be fitted in all probability. How likely is it that I'll be able to prise off the old crown race so that I can reuse the entire headset? Or would I be better off spending or so on a clearance 1 1/8 newer headset (and then having to have that fitted too)? I've currently got no concerns that the (original stock) headset is anything other than perfectly functional.

Easy enough to get it off, 1 second job with the right tool.

10 second job with a hammer and thin blade screwdriver, removed dozens without a problem.
