Should I buy a hybrid??

I currently have a RockRider 8.1 which I mainly use to commute and have got Schwalbe City Jets 26" 1.95 on it at the moment.
On my way to work it's a quick 5 mile blast but on the way home I go a different route which makes it about 11 miles but could be further depending on what kind of day I have had at work.
I am not keen on getting a road bike as I think that I would end up killing myself on such small tyres.
Would it be worth spending money to buy a new hybrid or just keep my current bike the way it is?

Why do you think you will kill yourself on skinny tyres? They are surprisingly grippy, even in the wet.

I think it's more of the scare factor that puts me off skinny tyres, they just look so fragile.
Cyclo-Cross? First time I have heard of these. What is the difference?0 -

Road bike wheels and tyres aren't half as fragile as they look. Im not exactly easy on my road bike, I hate riding on road so tend to neglect and abuse the bike. There are three jumps on my way to work to avoid cattle grids and I often smash through pot holes in the dark. After around 18-20k miles I'm still on the original wheels and tyres and have only had a handful of punctures .Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
