Canyon Ultimate CF SLX & mudguards? Really?

A question for any 2015 Canyon CF SLX owners out there. Mine's just arrived, and while it seems to have survived the journey there is a small hole on the inside of each fork, about 4cm from the bottom. Any idea what these are supposed to be for? Someone suggested mudguards but I can't see any corresponding holes at the rear and do they really think you'll be sticking mudguards on one of these?

Just want to be sure it's not a defect (please no...)

Thanks.

    Great, thanks v much.

Will stop peering at everyone else's bike to see if they've got holes as well, and looking forward to riding it with confidence.

    Even in the rain.

Really like mine excellent bike, just keep an eye on the seat tube for cracks though! Especially if you're using the vcls 2 seat post, I'm on my 3rd frame now!

Ouch will look out for those. Certainly going to be a step up from my 8 year old Specialized Allez...

Canyon sending me new frame out due to seat post cracking as well due to the VCLS 2.0 so when it arrives going back to old seat post instead, to much flex on other.

Did you have to send your old frame back?.

    Cheers
