CAAD3, Can you use a shimano cassette with a Campag groupset

Guys, after some assistance.
My big bro has a CAAD 3 from a fair while back, but he had a 10-spd Campag groupset fitted about 4 -5 years ago (I forget the flavour, but when I looked it up once upon a time it seemed to be equivalent to 105).
He is on a tight budget, and it seems likely he might finally need new wheels, and at the same time he may as well go for new chain and cassette.
The ones on there are Campag, again forget the model.
So I have some brand new Fulcrum 5's sat around that I would let him have for £120, but of course they have a Shimano freewheel - so my question is can he use them with a shimano 10 spd cassette (I have some Ultegra ones sat about as well) and if it will work, should we go for Campag chain, or Shimano chain?
Or is the only solution to get a campag freewheel to replace the current one?

Buy a campag freehub and cassette or buy a shimano groupset.

You can get cassettes with Shimano splines and Campag spacing, for instance these:

Ah bugger, thanks chaps - I do also have a brand new boxed 105 5700 groupset I would let him have for £200, but he's trying to cut corners - but then for £320 he would basically have a brand new bike, and he loves is Caad 3.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

I run a Campag groupset on Shimano wheels. I use the Ambrosio conversion cassette (Shimano spline, Campag spacing), it works perfect. Buy from RSI on eBay, also Probike used to be quite cheap for these.0

As far as I could work out when I wanted to do this recently, it costs over £50 to swap the freehub on a Fulcrum wheel as there's no alternative to using the Fulcrum own brand one, so it may not be worth going that route.0

I once rode home with an 8-speed cassette on a bike with 10-speed Rival groupset and chain; apart from a couple of shifts that didn't do anything, it all worked fine...i ran a mix of campag and shimano 10 speed for years only one jump on the cassette had issues, i only replaced it because i had a full rival groupset that needed usingPannier, 120rpm.0 -

yup in fact right now i have a 9 speed cassette on my MTB which i recently upgraded to 10 speed, i have a couple of 10 speed cassettes but havent made up my mind on gearing yet so just adjusted the limit screw to stop it shifting up to the last sprocket, works perfectly all i need to do now is ride the bike.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

You ummed and ahhed about moving from 9 to 10 speed. Then did. Then complained that you didn't ride it anyway and the upgrade was a massive waste of money.
And you haven't even got a 10 speed cassette on it?

Guys, I think he erring towards the wheels and the 5700 groupset as I'll let him have them for £340, as opposed to £170ish for wheels, ambrosio cassette and a new chain.
Does anyone know if a hollowtech bb will fit in a caad 3?
He's desperate to ride, so wants it out of action for the shortest possible time.

BB30 didn't appear 'til 2000, the year the CAAD3 was discontinued, so it should be English threaded/Hollowtech compatible.0

Oooh, one more question - does anyone think the headset should be changed as well?

Not unless there's something wrong with the existing one. Take it to bits and have a look; with luck you can just clean it up, regrease and reassemble. Even if the bearings themselves are shot, you may well be able to replace them without replacing the rest of the headset.Oooh, one more question - does anyone think the headset should be changed as well?
I'm guessing that might be a bbit more of a pain to A remove, and B source a replacement though.
Edit: Headsets don't wear out in quite the same way as the drivetrain; if they're adjusted correctly, and sealed/regreased well enough to keep the water out, they should last almost indefinitely.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -

Blimey I did not, I will go and see if I can find it, assume it is a brand new thread?
EDIT: OK found it, still not sure if my Felt would be affected int he same way, as the drop outs are not recessed to my eye.
As I fitted them I tightened up the opposite side as much as I could, and then just used a final half or 3/4 turn on the lever to tighten it up.
I do have spare normal QR levers though so could bring those into use if it thought to be safer.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Mine are on my Felt as well - and whilst I didnt think I would have the same problem just in case I switched back to an old set of normal QRs that I had spare. I did notice how light those DTSwiss new contraptions were0
