Base training question

This could be a dumb one but if you're doing a twelve week block of base training does that mean every ride in those weeks needs to be at base level or can you mix it up with intervals etc.

The whole point of base training is to give you a solid grounding (ie a 'base') so that you can begin to train effectively at higher intensities. But why are you doing base training in June?

Haha, some of us prioritise winter cycling over summer, racing Cyclocross mainly but also coming back from a long term injury so basically starting again from scratch.
