Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLE Wheelset Compatibility Question

So, I'm going to be honest here.

My partner (who isn't a cyclist, who doesn't know a thing about cycling), purchased the above wheelset for my birthday. I'm not a "pro" cyclist, but I am an avid cyclist who does quite a lot of k's cycling each week. I'm keen to put these wheels on my bike and go for a spin. I am still relatively "new" to the cycling world in terms of components, modifying my bike etc.

However, I spoke to a local bike shop who's confused me with their opinions and knowledge and thought I'd jump online to get a second opinion.

I'll list what I own - then my question.

I currently ride a 2012 Jamis Ventura Comp Femme road bike.

Wheels: Mavic CXP-22 rims with CNC sidewalls, 28/32H, Formula alloy hubs with QR and 14g stainless steel spokes
Cassette: SRAM PG-950 9-Speed 11-26T
Derailleurs: Shimano Tiagra RD-4600 rear and Sora FD-3400 front with 34.9mm alloy clamp
Shiftlevers: Shimano Sora ST-3400 Dual Control STI, 18-Speed

See more specs here.

My partner purchased the Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLE Wheelset (Campagnolo - NOT SRAM/Shimano).
http://www.mavic.com.au/wheels-road-tri ... arbone-sle

1. Are the wheels currently compatible with my cassette and bike as is (everything on my bike is stock standard, but the seat)?
2. If not, can I change the freehub body that came w/the wheelset from Campagnolo to SRAM/Shimano (Requiring 9 Speed). Is this possible?
3. Is point 2 the cheapest option to make them compatible with my bike?
4. Any other options of how I can put these wheels on my bike?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

usually the freehub can be swapped to shimano, i think it's this one you'll need, but do check to be sure...

were they purchased from a shop? if they're still boxed and unused first step should be to check if they'll swap for shimano compatible

By the way, they were purchased from a shop/place in UK and shipped to Australia!

Unfortunately, they're not still in the box, rather got excited and opened them straightaway.
I'll put my faith in that Mavic Freehub and cross my fingers I can swap it over with no hassles.

Cheers Sungod - you are brilliant with your information and links! My freehub is on it's way with ETA delivery for Monday, keen to take these wheels for a spin!

You can run 9 speed Shimano/Campy on the same cogset. You could have just got a NOS Campy 9speed cassette if it is infact Campy splines on the wheelset. When you change out the freehub body you will also need to redish the wheel...NOT for the home mechanic.

Oh really? Thanks for that. I was going to take a shot at home to do it myself to save some $. Where I live there's a bike shop (who I buy most of my gear through, unless cheaper online) who do a bike service & wash (for $99) and for the month of June at no additional cost, they pick up your bike from home, do the quick service on it and drop it off back to your house. Does anyone know what kind of cost I'd be looking at for someone qualified and knows what they're doing to replace the freehub and switch over the wheels? I'm hoping it's not expensive. But do acknowledge, I would need to buy the tools as mentioned above if I had to do it myself, so I'd be saving money there by not needing to aquire said tools.

Could you buy the tools? Sure. You can get a chain whip and a lock ring tool - and use them once, maybe twice. But, if you were to get a NOS cogset a shop should install it for you at no charge being as it takes about 20 seconds.

As a note: I even raced Ironman on 9speed on a full Campy bike with Shimano freehubs on my Zipp race wheels. 10 speed will "mostly" work but for one cog that will be .05mm off - and a good mechanic can pick the cog that chatters a bit. But, smart man uses this as an opportunity to have two wheelsets ready to go...thus, if you get a flat tire rolling out of the house you simply just toss on the other wheel.

If you get there - 11 speed works brand to brand just perfectly. 10 is the odd one out.
