Rear summer tyre

Any suggestions for a rear tyre for summer?

Needs to be 650b, tubeless, fast rolling but offers decent grip on trails

Thinking Maxxis Ardent 2.4 at the moment

    I thought about the ardent race but it might not have the braking I need, while I want something fast rolling I need some good braking grip

    I'll check out the bonty ones

    Racing Ralph or Rock Razor?

    that said... If you want something with bags of grip that's at odds with the whole "Summer" tyre thing...

    Rock razor is another I'm considering, anyone tried one?

    Well I'm not after loads of grip but more than a pure XC tyre but faster rolling than a big winter tyre

    Summer tyres don't need much tread to grip well. I like really worn, almost slick 42a highrollers in the dry.

    good point, I think the ardent in the hard compound will be fine really but the bonty and rock razor interest me

    Rock Razor is OK until the side lugs tear off. Mine was destroyed after a week on rocky trails. My Magic Mary isn't doiumuch better.

    I'd be looking at a softer rubber compound and a shallower tread pattern like RM's worn High Rollers. Obviously it depends on where you ride but on the generally harder surfaces I'd expect more grip.

    I just got a WTB Trail Boss - rolls really well as a rear tyre. Vigilante up front for grip. The Trail Boss skips about a fair bit on wet roots for sure but with the Vigilante tracking well it just aids direction change!

    then later on stick a butcher up front, best combo fastish rolling trail tyres i've ridden and hook up so well

    I'm using Purgatory front and rear, they aren't exactly fast rolling summer tyres. Good all rounders though.

    I run an Ardent on the rear as a trail tyre and I like it; provides a decent amount of grip without being too draggy. I've used lower profile tyres and felt like I was compromising grip for the sake of small weight savings or marginal decreases in rolling resistance. They roll fast and brake fine, although they get clogged up with mud and loam a bit too easily.

    What about the new nobby nic evo tyre?

    I put one on my bike, seems pretty fast rolling

    Using a Racing Ralph. Very fast rolling, locks up quite easily under breaking though but makes for some fun cornering. Puncture quite a bit so I ended up with a double defence one

    New Nic for me is a winter rear or front tyre.

    wanting to try something other than schwalbe really..

    Basically im looking for something faster rolling than a hans dampf

    The spesh and wtb combos are interesting and I might try one of those

    I'm thinking of trying something different...

    The Hutchinson Toro RR seems to be getting great reviews as a front tyre in summer and damp conditions
    I like the looks of the Taipan RR, essentially a hans dampf but slightly faster rolling

    Maxxis Ikon every time. Run tubeless at low pressure. Get the triple compound version for extra grip. Superb tyre.

    can anyone comment on how long the trail boss lasts? I've seen online its recommended but didn't last long?
