Recently changed the inner ring on my FSA Gossamer Pro Chainset from a 34t to a SRAM 38t chainring, everything seems to work ok, but on occasions when dropping down from the big ring (50t) the chain sits in the gap between the chainrings. Any advise would be appreciated.

I did similar and had the same intermittent problem, in the past. Basically the ramping on your outer ring is designed to drop the chain onto the smaller diameter of the 34 T. No real way around it, it's going to happen now and again. presumably you have the inner spigot on the 38T in line with the cranks arm? If you have, that's as good as it's going to get.

It's like, for instance, some SRAM 50T's are ramped to work with a 34T inner, whilst others are ramped to work with 36T(hence stamped 50-36 or 50-34 and have different part numbers) . At the end on the day it's really best to use matched size rings as the chain dropping in-between the rings is disconcerting and potentially dangerous.

Def on the right way, will change down ok on the cassette big rings ( 27t 23t)but not in the cassette middle rings
