Stage 1 won by Mark Cavendish ahead of Caleb. Greipel 8th but was boxed in a little. Sagan didn't contest.

Great finish by Caleb Ewan, closely beaten into second, picked the right just pipped.
It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.

  • Cav has got some big competition, but TTHR Jr was very happy to see Boonen leading out Cav to a win.

As an aside, I was looking on PCS last night, and am I right in thinking that Cav is the "most winningest" current rider?
  • Cav wins again. Pretty standard fare, led out by Renshaw to 200m, then opened up his sprint.

Modolo second but never any danger he'd beat Cav

He's second. Still a long way behind Petacchi.

Looking at CQ ranking here's the career wins tally of some of the more prolific winners:

    152 Petacchi
    128 Cavendish
    118 Griepel
    114 Boonen
    88 Cancellara
    87 Valverde
    60 Gilbert
    57 Kittel, Contador
    56 Sagan

(May not be 100% accurate - but near enough)

My one Carlton Kirby moan of the year. Someone needs to tell him that pro riders are not terrified of corners.

    I'll leave it alone now.
  • My mistake was comparing Cav and AleJet head to head, as that only gives Petacchi's wins while Mark has been riding (about 90 odd) and doesn't include the ones from pre-2006 (about 60 odd)

Yes "Cav is the "most winningest" current rider" of his generation and Alessandro Petacchi is from another ERA at 41 years of age with only one win in the last 4 years.

While on the subject, then try this :-
    Most Victories Ever:
    1. Eddy Merckx BEL 436
    2. Rik van Looy BEL 379
    3. Francesco Moser ITA 275
    4. Rik van Steenbergen BEL 273
    5. Roger de Vlaeminck BEL 256

Those figures are a little dubious though. Those wins are padded out quite a lot by criteriums. De Vlaeminck for example is more around the 160 mark for legitimate wins.

Rebellin wins, thus keeping up the long held tradition of the Tour of Turkey.

That's what happens when you include The Tour Du Southend Pier and other 1.1 races.

Super lightweight startlist. Looks like all the WT teams are making their feelings known.

Good to see my man Sepulveda in 3rd.

Climbing specialist team Colombia can only put one rider way down in the top ten.

Clashing with a monument and a World Tour stage race hardly helps, nor does the fact that perhaps a third of some teams will be resting after the cobbles.

"Testy" seems to be Kirby's new favourite word, can someone please buy him a dictionary? If not, I can see myself becoming quite testy.

Seeing as this race disappeared into a time warp yesterday, I'm betting on Oscar Camenzind or Paolo Bettini for today's stage.

Petacchi isn't much younger, is he? I'll have him.
