Hi, I'm off to Puerto Pollensa soon and as I have never stayed on that side of the island I wondered if anyone could give me some nice routes, especially nice climbs. Any of the lesser used ones I would be very greatful.

Many thanks

Tris

    This.

TBH I'm not sure there are a lot of lesser used climbs round there... you've basically got Formentor, and apart from that you're heading up into the mountains and the well-known routes. Brilliant whichever way you go though.

Gonna be flippin cyclists everywhere. So, keep them all behind you and enjoy the lovely rides.
  • Get ready for 9am ish, hang around the central roundabout and wheelsuck onto any group that looks like your level

Either that or just follow the cycle routes and explore.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Cap de Formentor is one you have to do. It's the law. But it's only 30 miles return trip.

The back roads between Port de Pollença and Pollença are nice but not very far of course.

Other than that head towards Lluc up the Col de Feminia.

Either singly or in combination the monasteries at San Salvador, Randa and Bonany.

These are all a distance from Puerto Pollenca but there are some excellent road out and back to make a loop. As they are 'stand alone' mountain all have great views.
If you want a closer and slightly smaller version try Ermita Santa Magdalena which is about halfway between Buger and Inca.
There is also the Covent opposite Pollensa (not Puerto) across the main road to the SE. You can only ride up so far and then the road get rougher and rougher and turns into a footpath.
  • I think without doubt the nicest roads in Mallorca are the ones you do if you do on return from one of the "Big Loops", out West from PP taking in Puig Major of course, and Soller Pass. The roads heading back East after you've been thru Soller are cycling heaven- Bunyola-Orient-Alaro-selva-Campanet etc and back along towards PP.

Take your time thru some of the smaller villages- stop for an espresso (or beer). One of my fondest memories was finding a small tavern in one of the tiny villages (maybe one of the ones mentioned above), and sitting outside in the sun. The place looked closed, but when I wen tin to order us coffee's, the place was packed inside with the old boys escaping the heat, playing dominos and generally just chilling. Village was deserted otherwise (siesta).

The few times Ive been in the past, its been more geared to race "training". Next time I go, thats going out of the window- im going to subtract 5mph at least off my average speed

Buy a fold-out map and take it with you. Cycle down to Sa Pobla, take the train over towards Palma and ride back. Ride down to Inca then right thro Selva and Caimari. marcel Wust does his Procycling tests around here and San Sebastian. Down to Felantix and Manacor is a good ride

+1 had a week in pollensa back last Saturday, get one of those waterproof maps (there on Amazon) just plan your route the night before just watch out for the small signs in the small towns buger selva muro etc ...but don't worry you won't have to cycle long until there's a signpost :D . Try and get to selva in the village square teaming with cyclists and free oranges lol. Enjoy
