Upgrading / Renewing disc brakes

I have a Trek Remedy 7 2009 with Avid juicy 5 brakes running 203mm front rotor, 185mm rear rotor.

I'm looking to upgrade/renew the callipers, levers and rotors. Can I run the current rotor sizes with any callipers or do I need to look for specific callipers that will run with the current rotar sizes?

Thanks. :)

you sure the rear is not 180? as a set of shimano slx or xt brakes would be a good choice.

Providing you keep your existing adaptors (the bracket that attaches the caliper to the fork/frame) your new brakes will bolt straight on. No need to use the Avid bolts and CPS washers

203 is a Hope/Shimano size and 185 is an Avid size.

Hence if you keep the same brackets then you'll need to buy the same size rotors.

Shimano tend to come in 160/180/203

    Hope are 160/183/203

And I 'think' Avid/Sram have gone back to 160/180/200

I thought they all used the same size so you will need a shimano adapter for the rear then as you must have one on the front if your using a 203 front rotor.
  • thank you all for the feedback. its been really useful.
