Yes, but that's not technically possible.

Sturgeon wearing trousers. Very obvious trousers.

My long-term prediction is that either this election or the next election will be a very good one to lose.

I am guessing at least one party will be relishing tonight as it may the last time they get invited onto a debate like this, given that they need to be a major party to get invited onto it :)

I think I will read about it after the event. I can not see how it is going to add much to the electoral process other than entertainment for certain political twisted types who live in that party political bubble where you gang is the best. You know the sort who are probably left or right wing but support their generic centre left or centre right party thinking that they are represented by them but the reality is if you are a socialist Labour is not representing you. Same on the other side with the Tories. They are all just a bunch of focus group obsessed PR men and women trying hard to cater to as many of the social groupings that may swing to their party.

    Just my opinion.

However I stil can not get over that outgoing Labour treasury secretary's letter left on the desk for the incoming person saying something about there being no money. It might have been a joke but pretty offensive considering the number of people who lost a job over the period of the recession. I was among their number. I want to see the back of Cameron but I can no see anyone better. Perhaps I should watch this pantomime in case someone comes up. Can I vote for SNP if I live in England? They seem the only ones to cater for their own demographic.

Turned over after an hour. Observations made in what I thought was quite a tawdry piece of telly.

    1. Nick Clegg seems to have suffered a severe amnesiac episode regarding the role he and his cronies have played over the last 5 years, and should seek help immediately from the NHS.

    2. There appeared to be 2 factions. 6 v 1(Cameron) and 5 v 2(Cameron/Farage)

    3. Farage looked quite ill.

    4. Sturgeon came across as an absolute Nationalist, with no real interest in the good of the UK.

    5. Green Party policies are continually paired with climate change. They want to build 100s thousands of houses. How the hell do they think the kilns that bake bricks are powered? With wind turbines?

    6. Ed Millipede had quite obviously been told not to look at the audience and continually stared down the camera lense even when responding to other delegates.

    7. Cleggs commented that he doesn't want to saddle his children with the debt of the UK. Well in actual fact it won't have any impact on his kids future as both he and Miriam are doing quite nicely thank you very much. Same goes for Millipede and Cameron.

    8. I noticed that there were frequent remarks about dealing with the wealthiest in the UK and looking after the poorest. WHAT ABOUT THOSE OF US WHO FALL IN THE MIDDLE? WE HAVE NO ACCOUNTANTS TO FIDDLE OUR TAXES. WE WOULD BE UP 5H11TE CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE IF WE LOSE OUR JOBS, AS THE SAFETY NET WOULD NOT COVER OUR MORTGAGES ETC, ETC.

    9. The denial of the Plaid Cymru leader about health tourism, certainly rankled MRS GOO, who is employed in the NHS and has seen the demands placed on the system from those that turn up on our shores.

Conclusion in the hour I saw. No winners, no losers.

Sadly with the low wages MP's get they don't have a need to do the job people NEED them to do.
That's not saying some don't dona good job and others have good intentions but the reality is that you wouldn't go into politics as an MP after gaining a good education for the wages.
I also think that because there is little in the line of accountability, you won't get the best results because MP's are more inclined to do what gives them the best chance of re-election.
Another issue is the voters who don't realise that we are in a mess and the only way to fix debts is to spend less. National health doesn't work, paying people money who come into the country with no job is wrong, not because I dont feel sorry for them but because it can't be paid for. We borrow billions to pay for bills we can't afford today and at rates we can't afford to pay the interest on. In corporate law this would get you sent to jail.

We need politicians who will make cuts and tax more but that won't happen, it doesn't benefit them and it doesn't benefit the voters (in the short term).
Sadly many will love out lives unemployed, having never experiencing the wonders of the world, traveling, having a job, driving (legally), providing for their children.
The true sadness is that I could fix the problem in a single generation, just the same as anyone here could but as I said earlier, people wouldn't stand for it.

As long as the education system churns out hundreds of thousands of teenagers every year with no real worthwhile qualifications we'll never live up to our potential as a country.

Expect it to continue to be used as a political football.

Cameron had the best suit on. Classic tailoring, good fit, good colour (very dark navy), good shirt (fractionally off-white cream, but still a white shirt).

Clegg's was the worst, and a bad tie to match. Just badly fitting and too blue. Tie was far too fat. I'm not a fan of the yellow tie generally.

No-one should ever wear silver ties so Miliband loses there. Looked ok but lapels too narrow for me. Was also verging on too black rather than charcoal too.

Sturgen wore some horrible salmon monstrosity with flare shoulder seems.

Farage dressed like a f*cking broker, but then that's what he is, so go figure.

The SNP is nothing more than a regional, left wing version of UKIP. However they will get a lot more seats than UKIP and they will never go into coalition with the Tories, so one possibility is that the SNP will end up propping up a minority labour government. It might keep me busy, but if this starts looking likely I think it's time for a red top to do a re-run of this headline with the current Labour leader in place of Kinnock:

Apart from a potential leak, and an obvious smear - this was my favourite quote over the weekend -
"But Labour called the report "damning" and said that even if it was not true the "SNP are happy to see another Tory government"."

So, something that may never have happened may be damning?
Just for the record, I have never had relationships with Lucy Mecklenburgh.

Thought I'd post this here rather than start another election thread.

How many of you on here get their minds changed by the intense electioneering in the weeks prior to the election?

    I for one don't.

Other than highlighting all the false promises, what is the real point of the election campaign?

Politicians still haven't grasped that we judge them by what they do, not what they say.
(Or, at least I do and hope that everyone does).
They think that by spouting complete tosh that they can change our minds.

Ah, you have nailed your yellow colours to the mast Mr Rick. That's why you questioned me about the wind farms. You are pro wind farms quite obviously. Quick little story for you, that I believe that I have told at least once or twice on here.

    1. Lib Dem policy on energy is PRO Wind Farms
    2. May 2010 Nick Clegg becomes Deputy PM. A position which will obviously enable the influencing of UK policy on energy...... 'more Wind Farms is what we need Mr Cameron'
    3. June 2010 Miriam Clegg lands directorship job at Acciona SA (Spain). The worlds largest supplier of Wind Turbines. Where she will be able to feed the company an inside line on UK energy infrastructure which is being fed to her by hubby. What incredible timing that was! Don't you just love it?

Corruption is normally levelled at the Tories or Labour. But none can be more corrupt than the Lib Dems.

    Footnote
Miriam Clegg has abandoned the Acciona ship, as they are now the subject of corruption allegations in Spain!

    Yeah, probably.

You'd need to be a bit foolish to work for a wind farm turbine company if you weren't in favour of wind farms wouldn't you?

I'm also fairly sure we all tell our other halves what's going on in our jobs, confidential or not.

You're always going to have an inside track if you're married to an MP or a member of government. Can hardly stop all spouses of MPs working can we?

Here's a question - in what way did this 'corruption' you talk about actually cause problems?

    Honest question - I don't know.

If Acciona have won outrageously expensive contracts that were far more expensive than competitors, then you've got a legitimate claim. If they've won them competitively, then it would raise an eyebrow. If they have nothing to do with UK wind farms, you're p!ssing in the wind.

They have supplied to UK wind farms. The problem is that whilst everything seems to be above board it isn't.
I have corresponded with someone who has attended planning meetings with Navitus Bay Development (EDF/Eneco). So we are talking about multi-billion pound concerns here that both have majority ownership by their respective states of France and Netherlands. It has been reported to me that this partnership that wishes to plant 200 wind turbines just off the coast of Bournemouth came completely unprepared to answer any questions. My contact states that he believes the scheme has already been signed off and that it is only going through the Planning Inspectorate for appearance sake. But how can anyone prove it? This is the problem. And I have also questioned the developers about whether Acciona are tendering, and they refused to comment.

Big Business + Politicians = mutually assured corruption.

I suggest you keep digging then.

If it's true you'll have yourself a good scoop!

And don't tell Stevo that big business and politicians don't mix. He'll get upset with his list of 100 businesses who want a Tory govt (well they actually said maintain the coalition's course)

My correspondent was an ex-mayor and he has resigned from the conservative party over this development, because he is so convinced of this being a done deal. I have also written to the Sajid Javid (Culture Secretary) on the matter, as he is reported to have expressed concerns over the loss of UNESCO World Heritage status. No Response. I have also written to the Daily Telegraph as they have reported on the scheme a couple of times, asking them to investigate, but no acknowledgement whatsoever.
My main concern is that all the apparent due process has now finished and the Planning Inspectorate are presenting their report to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change who will be the one to say Yay or Nay. One Mr Ed Davey (Lib Dem).

There is no hope to stop this scheme.
